Software Development Manager, Digital Payments & Emerging Markets

In the Digital and Emerging Payment, we build payment experiences that delight our Mexico customers with the world's best payment experience! We are in search of a talented technical leader and craftsman passionate and experienced in building intuitive customer facing and highly scalable software.

Our team takes a world view of payments for all of Amazon yet builds highly customized and seamless payment experiences for our global customers. This focus on customer and geography requires working on different technologies and back-end platform systems in order to meet the needs of our customers. Our back-end systems are always available and guarantee that our customer’s orders are never lost and always processed even when downstream services are down. You will have a chance to understand the entire end to end Amazon Retail and Digital businesses and technology stacks, and to influence their development too.

We are seeking an innovative, results-oriented Manager of Software Development with a proven track record of successful delivery. You are someone who will enjoy the challenge of working on complex and highly disparate technologies – from front-end development to back-end highly distributed systems. You are interested in high growth career opportunity and enjoy building software that brings smiles to our customers. You will provide both strategic and tactical oversight to build the features and functionality required to have a best in class offering to our branded gift card customers. You will lead a team in design, development, testing and deployment of software. You are passionate about building simple and elegant software solutions, customer-centric products and agile development processes.

A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer facing experience, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, a proven ability to grow and develop a team and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.

The ideal candidate will be a leader, quick learner and be able to work independently. He/she should be able to operate in a very fast paced environment where time to hit market is super critical. The candidate will need to balance technical leadership and savvy with strong business judgment to make the right decisions.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Own the roadmap of the services that enable faster delivery of payment experience to our customers.
  2. Document and present strategies to senior management.
  3. Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments.
  4. Management of departmental resources, hiring, mentoring, enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class product development team.
  5. Work closely with the engineers and product managers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
  6. Report on status of development, quality, operations and system performance to leadership.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  2. 7+ years of engineering experience.
  3. 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience.
  4. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
  5. Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  2. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
