Job Description
What You Will Be DoingThe successful applicant will work in a team environment responsible for developing and delivering capital projects to meet all applicable codes, standards, and local, state, and federal laws and with particular attention to scope, schedule, and budget. The employee will perform site planning work that incorporates input from clients, stakeholders, and the public as appropriate to meet project objectives. Meet with clients (park superintendents, land managers, etc.); participate in citizen advisory board meetings; perform data collection work onsite; and coordinate with permitting/regulatory agencies in support of developing concept and final site plans. Conduct inspections of construction sites as needed and support the project engineer to help ensure project objectives are met.
Mission and Culture
This position is assigned to the Design and Construction Section of the Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. It supports the division in its mission to provide outdoor recreation opportunities by applying design principles to develop and/or improve facilities for safe public access and overall enjoyment.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
This position is stationed in the Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage. The position balances office work during the design phase of projects with fieldwork throughout the state during the construction phase.

Minimum Qualifications
Engineer/Architect 1 - Starting Salary $3359.25 bi-weekly
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.
Engineer/Architect 2 - Starting Salary $3591.75 bi-weekly
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska or the equivalent.
Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

- Educational transcript indicating completion of a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) or Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture (BSLA) from a nationally accredited institution (e.g., the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board).

- This position requires a fair amount of travel for construction inspection work, mostly via passenger car or commercial aircraft, but may occasionally consist of travel on small planes and watercraft. Extensive walking/hiking through undeveloped terrain and active construction sites is necessary.

Cover Letter
A cover letter is required for this position. The letter should highlight your experience in the following:
- Designing outdoor facilities.
- Construction administration of civil facilities.
- Using computer-aided drafting programs such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software to develop site plans.
- Technical writing and written communication.
- Landscape architecture, parks, or outdoor recreation projects should be emphasized.
Education
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill out the Education section of the application.
