Northern Trust is currently looking for a full-stack engineer – Sr. Lead to join our growing Portfolio Accounting and Data Services team. This is a hands-on role in an enterprise-wide data and digital transformation initiative and deliver excellent user experience for delivering Accounting services to Northern’s Clients.

A successful candidate will be customer-centric with a passion for leveraging modern cloud architectures and technology to make significant business impacts across organizational boundaries. The candidate specializes in full stack development and implementing end-to-end components of custom applications. S/He involves designing and developing the UI, business logic, data & integration layer along with testing and maintenance of these layers - creating, querying & manipulating databases, APIs and integration, Front-end code (HTML/CSS, bootstrap, React JS) and web stack back-end technologies (Java, Springboot and Azure cloud etc.).

This full-stack lead will bring in the experience of SaaS/cloud solutions (Azure)/web development and best practices in building, maintaining, and enhancing state of the art client-facing applications in a hybrid-cloud environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with Data Engineers and Software Engineers to design and deliver a Cloud-based application as the layer of Northern Trust’s Accounting platform.
  2. Manage production deployments of the full-stack application on Azure environments and help system troubleshooting and defect triage in production.
  3. Provide technical support and assistance in troubleshooting, configuring, and performance tuning packaged solutions and tools, such as Azure Kubernetes Services, AirFlow, etc.
  4. Partner with Agile Scrum Master to keep the team organized, on track, and focused on priorities.
  5. Document business requirements and application architecture and developmental best practices related to system design.
  6. Evaluate, prototype, and recommend emerging Cloud technologies and platforms from open source or vendors.
  7. Independently conduct POC projects.
  8. Be a hands-on practical leader to ensure both functional and non-functional requirements (e.g., security, performance, availability and DR/fail-over, scalability, compliance, etc.) are properly articulated, designed, implemented, and well documented in the entire software development life cycle.
  9. Communicate complex technical topics to non-technical business and senior executives and assist with scoping and architecting cloud data solutions.

Required:

  1. 10+ years development experience using Java, Springboot, SQL and NoSQL databases.
  2. Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and development patterns and best practices.
  3. 3+ years of experience designing and building cloud-native applications, microservices preferably using Azure or AWS.
  4. Strong experience deploying and hosting applications in containers and Kubernetes.
  5. Experience in Single Page Applications using React.
  6. Strong Experience in Software Delivery following Agile practices and Azure DevOps.
  7. Strong understanding of REST APIs and how to use them in practice.
  8. Strong Experience with continuous integration and collaboration tools like Azure DevOps, JIRA, Bitbucket, GitHub and Confluence.
  9. Strong Experience with unit testing and test automation tools and frameworks like JUnit, Jasmine, Jest, etc.
  10. Experience with Azure, AKS a plus.

Preferred Specific Skills:

  1. Experience with DevOps or DevSecOps.
  2. Knowledge of IaC and automation such as Terraform preferred.
  3. Knowledge of the financial services industry, Portfolio Accounting preferred.
