Our waterfront and coastal group is currently seeking a Project Manager / Senior Waterfront Engineer based in our Huntington Station, NY Office. This role is an opportunity to partner with senior technical experts and practice leaders in our Long Island, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut offices to drive solutions for our government, contractor, commercial and private development, and energy clients across the country. You will work on a variety of coastal and waterfront projects including community and public waterfronts, ferry terminals, marinas, commercial port facilities, piers, shorelines, harbors, and waterfront parks.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manage a variety of waterfront / coastal projects with varying levels of complexity, cost, and size.
  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, staff, and budgets.
  • Serve as a technical lead for the design of waterfront projects, including preparing construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, permit applications, and reports.
  • Manage on-site field staff during the implementation phase of projects and act as the primary point of contact in discussions with clients and contractors.
  • Provide technical direction and training to staff, as necessary to complete assignments and project deliverables.
  • Take a lead role securing new work for a growing component of our business, including proposal preparation, client development, and networking.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop younger staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S or M.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 6-10 years of experience working on waterfront design projects with structural aspects. Prior experience in marine, bridge, or heavy civil engineering design is preferred.
  • Registered professional engineer in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, or ability to obtain reciprocity in these states within 1 year of hire date.
  • Ability to travel for site visits / inspections, client meetings, and business development opportunities (to include overnight travel, as needed).
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong structural design experience with steel, timber, and concrete, as well as a working knowledge of geotechnical engineering to assist in the design of soil / structure interaction elements (e.g. bulkheads, retaining walls, revetments, and piles)
  • Ability to manage small to medium projects in all phases of engineering design including field investigations (to include structural assessments of existing conditions), preliminary designs, regulatory approvals, final design, and development of contract documents.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team setting to integrate in-house structural, geotechnical, and environmental capabilities to create interconnected design instruments.
  • Experience with the laws and regulations governing public procurement processes.
  • Experience with regulatory/environmental permitting associated with waterfront infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with establishment of flood design elevation, wave analysis, and wave loadings on coastal structures is a plus.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modelling for stormwater collection systems and coastal outfall structure design is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Completed NCEES national record with ability to obtain reciprocity in other Northeast states, as needed.
