Structural Engineer - NSBA Bridge Education Specialist


Location:

The National Steel Bridge Alliance is looking for an enthusiastic bridge engineer to share the latest innovations in steel bridge design and construction with the decision-makers who shape the country's infrastructure.


For over 100 years, AISC and the National Steel Bridge Alliance have been the leading advocate and trusted resource for the country's steel bridge industry. The NSBA Bridge Education Specialist will ensure that bridge owners and bridge designers have the information about every aspect of steel bridge design and construction that they need to make informed choices, through the offering of continuing education courses.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

● Develop processes and manage the delivery of all Steel Bridge Forums (SBF), which are in-person one-day technical seminars that bring together decision-makers and experts from the structural steel design and construction industry.

○ Work with NSBA staff to identify SBF locations, agenda, technical content, and speakers.

○ Coordinate speakers, facilities, registration, and meals with the hosting entity.

○ Review the technical content to verify it meets continuing education

requirements.

○ Ability to serve as host/lead of SBF and deliver presentations demonstrating

NSBA tools and resources that can be used by bridge owners and designers.

● Coordinate/manage technical programming for NASCC: The Steel Conference’s World

Steel Bridge Symposium (WSBS), including acting as secretary of the WSBS planning

committee.

● Serve as the primary AISC/NSBA representative for national steel bridge webinars

(approximately four per year).

○ Oversee the technical development of webinars and materials, including

PowerPoint presentations, handouts, learning objectives, and assessment

questions.

○ Work with NSBA staff to identify appropriate webinar speakers and reviewers,

and conduct presentation reviews and speaker training sessions to ensure

quality of presentations.

○ Moderate live webinars, including the selection of audience questions for the

speaker to answer.

● Coordinate the delivery of two to three day in-person steel bridge design short courses.

● Work with AISC full members to develop processes that enable them to execute their

own local/regional presentations in partnership with the NSBA Bridge Communications Specialist.

● Manage university outreach for steel bridge engineering programs in collaboration with AISC University Relations.

● Coordinate distribution of case studies that demonstrate why structural steel is a competitive option for bridges.

● Coordinate with NSBA staff to educate AISC Full Members about NSBA tools and resources, including hosting quarterly national webinars for AISC Full Members.

● Speak at local and national trade shows as needed, demonstrating NSBA tools and resources, and speaking on the market advantage of using structural steel for bridges.


Additional Duties & Responsibilities

● Collaborate with AISC staff in all departments to ensure transparency and efficiency.

● Engage with and support the AASHTO/NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration.

● Work with NSBA staff as needed to assist in the development and implementation of

new tools and resources for decision-makers.

● Coordinate educational content on relevant internal and external communication

channels, including the AISC and Modern Steel Construction websites.

● Attend national AASHTO meetings/conferences/events and regional bridge-related

meetings/conferences as needed.

● Quantify education activities in Salesforce, tracking metrics, benchmarks, and goals.

● Carry out special projects and duties as assigned.

● Support other AISC continuing education and university education programs as needed.

● Attend AISC and NSBA meetings and events as needed.


Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred preferably with a structural emphasis.

● Minimum of five years experience in the design and/or construction of bridges using

AASHTO and state DOT bridge design standards, procedures, and requirements.

● Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with engineers, fabricators, and

Department of Transportation personnel.

● Proficiency with standard productivity software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google

Workspace, and similar applications).

● Exposure to CRM systems is preferred.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present in front

of a group, and demonstrate a positive attitude and self-motivation, with a marketing-

and sales-oriented demeanor.

● Ability to work independently in a highly organized manner.

● A high level of general business acumen and demonstrated ability to cultivate and

maintain professional relationships.

● Willingness to travel approximately one-quarter of the time.
