Development Engineering Manager

Overview:

This position will utilize their expertise to arrange, instruct, and develop other engineers and technicians to meet the customer’s requirements and schedules. Utilize an individual’s expertise to work closely with the Sales Department and analyze the upcoming revenue projections, to make recommendations for staffing and Capex needs as well as provide cost information for quoting.

Responsibilities:

1. Define, plan and complete development and production projects in laser micro manufacturing for the life sciences.
2. Perform complex equipment set up and process development of laser workstations.
3. Provide technical skill training to laser operators and technicians.
4. Lead the successful transition of development projects to production.
5. Support identification and planning of projects to be considered for the transition process.
6. Take ownership of assigned tasks and work across several departments to achieve a goal.
7. Support cross departmental teams in conjunction with a project transition.
8. Monitor ongoing development projects for manufacturability.
9. Oversee and bring to closure on any quality related issues to include Customer Complaint and Corrective Action.
10. Support the Operations Manager in solving ongoing production issues.
11. Support Sales through the completion of project routing for quotes.
12. Generate and update setup sheets, work instructions, and CAPAs as required.
13. Lead cross departmental teams in continuous improvement processes.
14. Mentor and guide other technical staff to optimized solutions.
15. Participate in sales support activities including sales presentations, customer visits, and technical seminars.
16. Monitor other engineers in the department for technical effectiveness and offer assistance when necessary.
17. Manage daily system and project schedules.
18. Arrange applications development engineers and technician’s schedules.
19. Instruct and help engineers and technicians to develop optimum processes.
20. Conduct regularly scheduled Performance Evaluations for staff and provide ongoing feedback.
21. Work with Director when disciplinary actions are required.
22. Schedule and approve overtime/work schedules.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or physical science discipline.
2. Familiarity with ISO Quality Systems particularly in medical device manufacturing.
3. Ability to generate drawings and models (2D & 3D CAD) using GD&T.
4. Ability to present and convey complex engineering ideas to internal and external customers.
5. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings using a GD&T system.
6. Ability to create job related documentation for quality purposes.
7. Ability to quickly and positively adapt to changing priorities and processes.
8. Ability to work under minimal supervision.
