Job Summary / Overview
Metalex is looking to add a new team member to our Quality area that has a passion for CMM Programming and Quality. This teammate will be responsible for planning, offline programming and performing CMM inspections of complex precision machined components to ensure all products are conforming to customer specifications.
Due to the dynamic nature of the industries and customers we serve, our assignments are typically non-routine in nature, therefore our inspection teammates must demonstrate, good judgement, problem-solving ability and strong leadership and communication skills needed to quickly resolve complex issues in a team environment. In addition, this teammate must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be excited about working hands-on with the latest technology, learning something new each day and being in an open team environment where each teammate is empowered to be the best they can be.
Day-To-Day Responsibilities
The CMM Programmer / Quality Inspector will be responsible for the following day-to-day activities:
CMM Programming
The primary focus of this role is on generating CMM programs in advance of when the inspection will be performed, this teammate will be responsible to create offline CMM programs using PC-DMIS and Polyworks software and then work with our highly skilled team of engineers, inspectors and programmers to optimize the total inspection process.
Create CMM Inspection programs offline using PC-DMIS and Polyworks software from 3D CAD
Keep the Quality team on the leading edge of CMM programming technology, continuously working with companies like Hexagon, Polyworks, Leica, etc. to understand and apply the latest technology and software to optimize productivity within the Quality Dept.
Create CMM Programs that are operator friendly and ensure dimensional integrity of CMM outputs.
Ability to troubleshoot/correct CMM errors, both programming and systemic issues
Experience using CAD based software such as Siemens NX is a strong plus.
Quality Inspection / Assurance
Quality is much more than just inspecting parts. Quality plays a critical role in elevating the performance of the total company by identifying opportunities for improvement in both processes and people and then working closely with leaders and teammates across the organization to take action to make things better each day (systems, processes, people).
Interpret detailed Aerospace drawings and specifications with a strong understanding of GD&T principles and applications to ISO/ ASME standards and identify appropriate inspection methods.
Perform first piece, in-process and final dimensional and visual inspections, on a variety of complex, precision machined parts ensuring compliance to all internal manufacturing instructions and customer specifications using a variety of inspections tools; Global CMM, Faro Arm, Laser Tracker, calipers, micrometers, indicators, borescope, gauge blocks, surface gauges, height gauges, etc.
Document all inspection results consistent with company procedures and customer requirements and issue non-conformances and/or quality notifications for discrepant conditions as required.
Provides support to Manufacturing Engineering, Programming, Machinists and other business units for quality planning, process development, quotation estimating activity, etc.
Qualifications
This position requires exceptional attention to detail in a fast paced and dynamic setting where hands-on inspection and decision-making skills and the ability to work in a team environment are a must.
- Strong Programming skills with experience programming/ operating a CMM using PC-DMIS/ Polyworks to inspect complex geometries. (Offline Programming a plus)
- Advanced knowledge of Aerospace Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles with an understanding of practical hands-on application in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to develop full Inspection plans using customer drawings and specifications including Ballooning drawings per custom specifications (Discus software is a plus)
Skilled in use of inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, surface gauges, height gauges, etc
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable working directly with Customers and on-site source inspectors.
- Intermediate to Advanced Computer Skills, including proficient knowledge of CMM Software, Microsoft Office suite tools (Powerpoint, Word and Excel). Experience using CAD based Software such as Siemens NX is a strong plus.
Team oriented with strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working in an open environment with teammates across the organization from machinists, engineers, programmers, Quotation, etc. to rapidly identify and solve problems.
