Russell Tobin has partnered with a leading specialty manufacturer to add to their growing team! This will be a remote role, but will require some occasional travel to their Chicago office as well as to other manufacturing sites located in the Midwest. This is a direct hire/permanent role with a salary range of $95k-$125k/year.


Role Overview:

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will focus on designing and developing electronics hardware for airworthy and certified electronic engine controllers and monitoring systems. This role encompasses all stages of product development, from conceptual design to final implementation. You will work collaboratively with project teams across various engineering disciplines and may be involved in prototype testing and manufacturing. This position involves travel up to 20% between company locations and up to 15% for other travel.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electronic circuits for control and monitoring systems, including analog, digital, mixed-signal (ADCs/DACs), and power supply designs.
  • Create and manage schematics and support PCB layout.
  • Conduct trade studies, tolerance analyses, and simulations to enhance design accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform worst-case scenario calculations, tolerance, stress, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Develop and test electrical hardware in the lab, including diagnostics and inspections throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Compile and document functional descriptions and design assurance test results for certification purposes.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering
  • Over 5 years of experience in circuit design.
  • Familiarity with New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
  • Strong background in electronic hardware design.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture tools such as Allegro-Cadence or Altium Designer.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of power converters, filtering, protection, and EMI reduction techniques.
  • Ability to analyze and translate high-level requirements into validated electrical designs.
