Job Summary
The Engineering Director oversees all engineering initiatives and communication with internal and external customers and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of projects, develops the site’s engineering operations strategies/programs, and long-range capital plan development. The Director is responsible for developing site specific engineered shoring system plans for contractors and providing engineering technical input that supports the use of large, engineered shoring equipment in the heavy underground construction industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiates changes to the scope of work with the client and key subcontractors.
- Review and stamp final Engineered plans, based upon licenses awarded.
- Participates in negotiations with regulatory agencies and in public meetings in support of clients.
- Oversees establishment of Project Execution Plan (engineering and drafting), Health and Safety Plan, Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan, and other documents as required.
- Collaborates with the engineering team to develop drawing and design standards with a focus to organize, expedite and drive efficiency across the department.
- Establishes the program requirements for all areas of the project and monitors the draft and final deliverables for adherence to these criteria.
- Plans, directs, supervises, and controls the execution of all business, technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the assigned project.
- Assigns responsibility for executing project plans to key subordinates after careful assessment of how to utilize their qualifications and strengths.
- Mobilizes company resources, through liaison with support departments, other offices, or subsidiaries, to create project teams capable of completing effective, quality work.
- Works with the key project individual to devise and execute actions plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work.
- Promotes technical and commercial excellence on the project through application of Quality Assurance processes.
- Monitors and reports to management on the progress of all project activity within the program, including significant milestones, and any conditions, which would affect project cost or schedule.
- Support other projects or responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge And Skills
- Solid understanding of heavy construction projects and contracting process.
- Excellent collaboration, organization and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of structure engineering knowledge base in design of steel, aluminum and timber.
- Understanding of geo-technical principles, report reading and the ability to determine soil/structure interaction details for shoring design.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and engineering software.
- General knowledge of the OSHA and applicable state and local requirements relative to Trench and Excavation Shoring and Shielding.
- Ability to obtain Civil Engineering Licenses in all 50 US states.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
- A Professional Engineer License Required with the ability to obtain Civil Engineering Licenses in all 50 states and Canada.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of project management experience in trench shoring, construction, or a related industry is a plus.
