About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Estimator with expertise in Sheet Metal to join a reputable construction team in Fairfax, OH. The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for mechanical and sheet metal projects, collaborating with various stakeholders, and ensuring project estimates are accurate and competitive. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities :
- Collect and analyze historical cost data to estimate costs for ongoing and future projects.
- Consult with clients, vendors, internal departments, and construction foremen to discuss project estimates and resolve any issues.
- Prepare and present cost estimates to management, supporting work planning, organizing, and scheduling.
- Analyze blueprints, project specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate estimates for time, cost, materials, and labor.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors, and subcontractors on project scope adjustments and cost revisions.
- Review contracts and bid documents to ensure accurate project scope and smooth turnover.
- Participate in project walk-throughs, pre-bid meetings, and scope clarification discussions.
- Perform quantitative take-offs and input data into estimating software.
- Prepare detailed scope letters and proposals for potential projects.
- Maintain and build strong relationships with customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate closely with the Engineering Department to ensure estimates meet technical requirements.
- Ensure all estimating documents are centrally saved in the company's secure drive for easy access and confidentiality.
- Assist project managers with take-offs and pricing changes as needed.
- Escalate critical or sensitive issues to the Estimating Manager, offering recommended solutions.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Take on additional responsibilities as directed by company executives or management.
- Previous experience in the construction industry, particularly in cost estimating.
- Proven experience in mechanical estimating; sheet metal experience is a strong plus.
- High school diploma or GED is required; further education or certifications in construction management or a related field are a plus.
- Solid understanding of construction industry practices and contract documentation.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local construction regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PDF viewer tools.
- Experience with estimating software such as AutoCAD Fabrication, EstMEP, and Quotesoft.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and project specifications accurately.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships.
- Time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
