General Summary
The Sr Software Engineer will work with members of the Technology department to develop and maintain applications and tools at the core of the studio’s pipeline.
Job Functions
- Contribute to the core software engineering backlog and collaborate with the various pipeline teams to offer software engineering expertise in the development and establishment of core tools and APIs.
- Participate in Agile sprint activities such as requirement gathering, sprint planning, backlog refinement, ticket/board grooming, story-pointing, launches, stand-ups, retros and reviews.
- Follow established department processes and procedures of SDLC, build and release system, and code and testing standards.
- Design and deploy software and systems in production timelines with high availability, and clear observability.
- Write tools and leverage open source to automate tasks emphasizing employing strong principles for code quality and maintainability.
- Contribute to open-source projects used in the filmmaking industry, such as OpenAssetIO, OpenColorIO, OpenTimelineIO and Universal Scene Description (USD), as a key open-source software framework for asset interchange and collaborative editing.
- Take ownership of challenging problems that arise from the evolving architecture of software that is heavily exercised in an active production environment.
- Collaborate with artists and other engineers to provide innovative technical solutions that extend our artistic and engineering reach.
- 10+ years of experience in applied software development or engineering experience in a studio setting.
- Experience with SDLC concepts and methodologies including managing build/release via CI/CD, version control discipline, and SCM tools such as Git and Perforce.
- Proficiency in three or more of these languages: Python, C++, C#, JavaScript, and Rust; experience with Event Driven Architecture, a plus.
- Experience with package management in a film/VFX/animation production environment, preferred.
- Knowledge in container platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift) and extensive working experience in public cloud (AWS, GCP and Azure), preferred.
- Strong software engineering skills and ability to learn new technologies at a rapid pace.
- Ability to navigate a large code base with many active contributors.
- Ability to communicate improvements and/or blockers on early prototypes effectively, constructively, and in an inclusive and positive way.
- Expertise in building software holistically from planning and proposal to implementation, testing, optimization, and deployment.
- Maintain a solid understanding of parallel programming, multithreading, scene graph, and data flow representations and algorithms.
