Staff Site Reliability Engineer - Compute Services


We are looking for accomplished Site Reliability Engineers to join our team who will help extend our world-class infrastructure-as-code platform by developing workflow tooling and automation, provide mentoring and support for users of the platform as well as advance the speed, reliability, and security with which changes are applied to Fastly’s CDN infrastructure.


What You'll Do


  • Develop tooling and automation including development, testing and deployment for config management (Chef, Terraform, Ansible)
  • Enable robust, secure and safe self-service for configuration change releases
  • Help design and implement the next generation of our internal compute infrastructure
  • Provide tooling for security and compliance visibility and controls
  • Support and mentor development teams to enable them to own their own configurations, parameters, and application secrets
  • Lead operational troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure configuration problems
  • Manage projects from a technical lead role driving project progress and communicating project status to stakeholders
  • Design and lead initiatives to improve the quality of currently implemented and future systems to meet stakeholder needs

What We're Looking For


  • In depth knowledge of modern Linux distributions with a focus on securing and configuring at large scale
  • Strong proficiency with development and code reviews in Ruby as well as other general purpose languages (Go, bash, Python, etc.)
  • You bring expertise with large scale development and use of infrastructure-as-code capabilities including Chef, Puppet, Terraform and other frameworks
  • Ownership (design, build, support the infrastructure) of the Base OS lifecycle, including requirements gathering, architecting and maintaining the OS configuration across our global network of 100 Points of Presence
  • Drive containerization of services on bare-metal, VM, and Cloud
  • Experience with secrets management, Hashicorp Vault and PKI systems
  • Experience with Packer VM image, programmatic PXE bare metal OS image ("golden image") and container image development
  • Work well in an environment with shared ownership of and responsibility for systems
  • Excellent technical and non-technical presentation and interpersonal skills
  • You have experience working with teams globally distributed across different geographies and timezones

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:


  • Experience with implementing distributed file systems and object storage (Ceph etc.)
  • Proven ability to apply new technologies and best practices to brownfield deployments while coordinating across a diverse engineering team

  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours as well as a member of a 24x7 on call rotation.

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. This position may require occasional travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.


Salary


The estimated salary range for this position is $181,220 to $226,520. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
