The network engineer is responsible for day to day operations and maintenance of the business's network infrastructure that provides critical customer facing applications across multiple international datacenters and cloud environments. The network engineer will exhibit strong communication skill by being the first line of contact between the network team and other internal organizations of the business for network support. The network engineer will participate in network changes during maintenance windows and partake in implementation and design projects as needed.
Primary Job Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
- Ensure stable and reliable network services (e.g. access products, service networks and core network).
- Day-to-day network performance monitoring.
- Network troubleshooting and fault analysis; hardware/software troubleshooting and repair.
- Implementation of configuration changes via our change control systems and processes.
- Maintenance of network monitoring, analysis and reporting tools.
- Installation of network hardware and software.
- Ability to travel to our datacenter on an as needed basis.
- Participate in the weekly 3AM ET maintenance window weekly on Tuesdays.
- Alert handling and escalation (identifying and responding to alerts on FreedomPay’s systems and networks, liaising with 3rd party suppliers, handling escalation through to resolution).
- Provisioning (IP assignment, core network configuration, monitoring and graphing, leased lines).
- Support security policy enforcement by leveraging security solutions from multiple vendors such as Palo Alto and Cisco.
- Support facilities provisioning (installing racks, setting up power, installing ethernet, fiber and console cabling, remote power and KVM).
- Maintenance of technical documentation (for Platform Operations) of processes and procedures used throughout normal operations.
- Development of knowledge and skills in network and system administration, particularly regarding FreedomPay’s own architecture and platforms.
- Participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation is required.
- 5-8 years’ experience working with networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and vendor networking operating systems i.e. NX-OS, IOS-XE, and JUNOS.
- Demonstrate strong initiative and the ability to work independently as a self-starter, while also thriving in a collaborative team environment.
- Professional level certifications preferred (CCNP/JNCIP, etc.) in any track such as routing and switching, datacenter or security.
- This position will need to be local to one of our datacenters in Ashburn, Virginia.
