Senior Engineer - Merch Planning (Hybrid - Seattle)

Job Description

A Senior Engineer is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability is at the solution level.

As a Senior Engineer you will be collaborating with engineers to build and support merch planning capabilities that support the merchandising product selection capability. You will be building new features in a cloud-based architecture using object-oriented programming systems/database concepts in an agile, collaborative environment. You will work directly with product and business stakeholders to build this brand-new platform and modernize the capability that our business users need, deprecating legacy products and processes along the way. We encourage innovation and expect developers to take a high level of ownership throughout the software life cycle. You will need a strong passion to innovate and collaborate across teams to deliver a multi-channel solution for our business partners.

A day in the life…

1. Responsible for feature design; evaluate designs and provide feedback
2. Influence quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution
3. Identify performance issues and optimize solutions
4. Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals
5. Understand security protocols, interpret security and compliance requirements

You own this if you have…

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering
2. 4+ years professional experience in practice area
3. Proficient in analyzing, designing and developing reliable and scalable solutions
4. Proficient in more than 1 Object Oriented language such as Java, C#, C++ etc.
5. Proven track record in Java and Java Spring boot framework
6. Experience Collaborating with Front-end developers
7. Experience with RESTful architecture and micro-services
8. Experience with cloud-based services (AWS/GCP)
9. Experience with containerization (K8/Docker)
10. Good communication skills (verbal and written)
11. Familiar with real-time data streaming (Kafka/Flink/SQS) will be a plus
12. Should be able to articulate and architecture a well-designed system
13. Provide guidance and oversight for implementation and delivery of a feature
14. Collaborate with other engineers and leads on feature design and delivery to business users
15. Provide mentoring to other developers and engineers on best engineering practices
16. Champions and identifies design improvements; makes recommendations to close gaps and build alignment
17. Experience in Full stack development will be a plus
18. Experience with SQL database will be a plus

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $114,000 - $201,500 Annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
