Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Database Admin Team Lead to join our Technology team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database management, proactive administration, and performance optimization. This role will be responsible for leading efforts to design and implement robust database solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and resource management. Collaborating closely with our software development teams, this individual will promote standard processes in database design while driving team alignment and contributing to the ongoing development and maintenance of our systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases using tools like SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
- Perform comprehensive database administration tasks, including resource management, security enforcement, data backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
- Implement and document solutions for database monitoring, maintenance, backup strategies, replication, and security measures.
- Install, maintain, and solve SQL Server environments, particularly focusing on Always-On Availability Groups and SQL Server Replication/Mirroring.
- Proactively find opportunities for database enhancements to improve system performance and reliability.
- Provide critical after-hours support when necessary to maintain high availability and optimal performance.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of database systems.
- Drive migrations to Azure’s Platform as a Service offering for Microsoft SQL Databases and highlight when NoSQL options such as Azure Cosmos will suffice.
- Serve as a Team Lead, facilitating function-specific change efforts and ensuring all stakeholders are properly aligned.
- Independently implement complex project tasks, from strategic planning to implementation, with minimal oversight.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
- Proficiency with modern database technologies, particularly in Azure environments.
- Extensive experience with SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups and SQL Server Replication/Mirroring.
- Expertise in configuring and supporting high-availability SQL Server environments, including replication, log shipping, and database mirroring.
- Solid understanding of data structures, design patterns, architectural patterns, and SQL Server internals.
- Proficient in using SSIS and SSRS for data integration and reporting.
- Skilled in query performance tuning and analyzing query execution plans.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery principles and effective planning strategies.
- Experience with SAN platforms and storage configurations.
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments such as AWS and Azure, as well as virtualization technologies like NetApp.
- Proficient in monitoring SQL Server performance using tools like Redgate and IDERA.
- Experience with Oracle and other RDBMS is a plus.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with varying deadlines.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking and collaboration.
- Experience working within Agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, or XP.
- Familiarity with project management and documentation tools like JIRA and Confluence.
The base salary range for this position is between 114,000 to 135,000, with eligibility for an annual bonus. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, business needs, and market demand.
