About the role:

In Samsara’s Business Technology Core IT team, we work to deliver awesome systems, support, and experiences that enable our teams to be as impactful as possible. As a member of the team, you’ll be in charge of owning the technology and processes that enable our people to do their best work. We are responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, and supporting the applications to create a streamlined experience for Samsarians. As a DevOps IT Engineer on the team, you will provide guidance and expertise in code build and release automation, CI/CD pipelines, overall DevOps methodologies and cloud infrastructure design. You will be driving strategic & mission-critical initiatives, technology assessment, architecture decisions, and building custom solutions by partnering with various technology teams and leaders.

In this role, you will:
  • Evaluate, innovate, develop, implement, and support any variety of internal SaaS Engineering automation systems geared to produce efficiency at scale
  • Develop and deploy new architecture patterns for services that maximize availability, security, scalability, and livability for the supporting team
  • Serve as the domain expert on implementation, management, and support of Business technology products and IT applications
  • Write code for various management tools, test automation and deployment utilities
  • Integrate and implement best practices and DevOps methodologies in every step of the IT engineering process
  • Design, develop, support and manage integrations to internal and external systems as required
  • Deliver high quality software using development methodologies
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on improvements to systems, tools, and processes
  • Manage technical requirements gathering, technical gap analysis, and contribute to backlog grooming
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a DevOps Engineer or similar role; experience in software development and infrastructure
  • Must have experience working as a part of a corporate IT Team
  • Experience working with API’s in Javascript (Node.js), Python or Go
  • Progressively related experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems, applications and major SaaS solutions
  • Experience with containerization tools, including Docker
  • Experience with source code versioning, Git, or GitHub.

An ideal candidate also has one or more:
  • Proficient in creating and developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts - utilizing industry standard tools like Terraform and/or CloudFormation, and building CI/CD processes and pipelines to enable 1-click and self-managed deployments
  • Experience creating and maintaining AWS cloud resources and services. Relevant services include Lambda, EC2, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECS, RDS, and API Gateway
  • Exposure to scale in a SaaS-first IT environment (Google Workspace, Okta, Slack, Zoom, Github, Zendesk, etc)
  • Developed and managed applications in a team environment
  • Experience with Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, OpsGenie, StatusPage)
  • Experience with Splunk
  • Expertise with Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform
  • Must be detail oriented, self-organized, be committed to quality and capable of tracking multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-changing, dynamic, and agile environment, including the ability to manage time and maintain an excellent work ethic
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must, as well as the ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations
  • Ability to spearhead and drive work without supervision across functions and collaborate with all levels of users and management.

Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy : Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually.

We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$78,778—$132,400 USD
