General Engineering Tech IPerforms and coordinates advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and complex maintenance contract inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarelyreferred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.General Engineering Tech IIPerforms and coordinates highly advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and complex contract maintenance inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:General Engineering Tech I- Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.- Inspects complex maintenance and construction-related work to include hot mix overlay to ensure compliance with safety, laws and regulations, contract specifications and departmental procedures.- Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.- Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.- Monitors bridge inspection consultant activities and assists with coding as needed.- Operates light and heavy equipment; performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment; performs roadway maintenance.- Performs detail design and quantity checks for plans, specifications, and estimate (PSE).- Reviews and assists in the development of traffic control plans, coordinates with law enforcement agencies, monitors lane closures at construction sites, documents changes in the traffic control setup and coordinates with the Public Information Officer.- Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.General Engineering Tech II- Oversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts and total maintenance, performance based, and bundled bid contracts.- Serves as project leader responsible for construction inspection activities for large and/or complex construction projects or for multiple district construction projects.- Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results.- Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.- Inspects complex maintenance and construction-related work to include hot mix overlay to ensure compliance with safety, laws and regulations, contract specifications and departmental procedures.- Inspects construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.- Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.- Operates light and heavy equipment; performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment; performs roadway maintenance.- Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and haz rdous material spills.- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
