Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our technology organization supporting our dynamic, innovative and industry leading Business Insurance organization. Join us to evolve the way we work and transform the Work Management & Orchestration experience that supports our Sales through Submission Customer Life Cycle. As we transform our technology landscape, we are focused on expanding our modern technology ecosystem that is well positioned for future business needs. Individual will complete intermediate end to end engineering tasks for specific system assignments including developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system design specifications, as well as participating in troubleshooting, conducting impact analysis and escalating appropriately.

What Will You Do?

  1. Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions as well as define technical requirements for assignments of intermediate complexity.
  2. Contribute to team requirement refinement, estimation, retrospective, detailed solution design, perform code/test case reviews, and ensure appropriate artifacts are reviewed and approved.
  3. Participate with team to perform analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of intermediate complexity and escalate appropriately.
  4. Work within guidelines set by team to independently tackle well-scoped problems.
  5. Translate business requirements into well architected solutions.
  6. Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned efforts.
  7. Perform test design & execution and test automation.
  8. Deployment automation and release management across environments.
  9. Collaborate with technical leads, architects, platform, and product owners to identify and recommend technical solutions that adhere to approved architecture, data security, and cyber security patterns.
  10. Ensure availability and provide on-call support to resolve application issues when necessary.
  11. Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  1. Three years of programming/development experience preferred.
  2. Two years of experience in Agile delivery model.
  3. MERN or similar stack experience.
  4. Hands on experience with JavaScript, REST APIs.
  5. Experience in application of test design strategies and techniques, knowledge of test automation tools.
  6. Experience with Public Cloud (AWS) a plus.
  7. Experience with Confluent/Apache Kafka a plus.
  8. Experience with ServiceNow a plus.
  9. Experience working with CI/CD processes incorporating test automation.
  10. Working knowledge of source control management tools such as Git.
  11. Knowledge of the following concepts: Real-time & Batch Data Processing, microservices Architecture and Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), Public Cloud (AWS), Test Automation (Unit, Integration, Performance, etc.), DevOps, Monitoring & Alerting, Encryption / Decryption, Cloud Cost & Performance Optimization.
  12. Intermediate delivery skills including the ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, decompose work assignments into small batch releases and contribute to tradeoff and negotiation discussions.
  13. Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to understand technical concepts necessary to do the job effectively, demonstrate willingness, cooperation, and concern for business issues and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on.
  14. Proven problem solving skills including debugging skills, allowing you to determine source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems and the ability to recognize and solve repetitive problems rather than working around them.
  15. Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly and concisely interact with team members, document work in a clear, easy to follow manner, collaborate well with team members, take in well-scoped requirements and ask the right questions to ensure clarification.
  16. Intermediate leadership skills with a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying personal growth opportunities.

What is a Must Have?

  1. Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in work experience.
  2. One year of programming/development experience.
