Your way to impact
At PayPal, Backend Software Engineers are the architects of our global payment platform. You'll design, develop, and optimize core systems that power millions of transactions daily, directly impacting our customers' experiences and our company's success.
Your day-to-day
As a Senior Software Engineer - Backend , you'll design and implement backend solutions. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.
- Design and develop scalable backend systems.
- Optimize system performance and reliability.
- Mentor junior engineers.
What do you need to bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 3-5 years of backend development experience.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python).
- Advanced proficiency in backend development with Python frameworks, including Django, or Flask.
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful services, focusing on scalability and reliability, using Python.
- Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews and design discussions.
- Understanding of algorithmic techniques, design patterns.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Strong understanding of database design, including SQL and NoSQL databases, and experience with ORM tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale, high-performance systems.
- Knowledge of the payment processing industry and relevant regulations.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
Additional Job Description:
PayPal is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Actual compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to work location, and relevant skills and experience. The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $72,700 to $176,000.

For the majority of employees, PayPal's balanced hybrid work model offers 3 days in the office for effective in-person collaboration and 2 days at your choice of either the PayPal office or your home workspace.
