The Analog Garage is ADI’s Research and Advanced Development Center located in downtown Boston. Our mission is to empower ADI by pioneering breakthrough technologies that can have a massive impact on the world. The energy transition, and electrification in particular, is a key area of focus; with a vision of leveraging our world-class experience in signal processing, machine learning, communication systems, and circuit design to accelerate the transformation of the electrical distribution grid.

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Research Scientist with experience in developing algorithms, software and systems for the electrical grid to work with our team of talented and skilled researchers in a highly collaborative, hands-on environment to help us achieve this vision. You will work on solving challenging problems with massive scope that could have a significant impact on the electrical grid. The ideal candidate will have experience in deploying software containing significant novel algorithmic content to grid OT/IT systems such as ADMS, DERMS, GIS and FLISR. A deep understanding of technical constraints that arise from operational limitations will also be helpful.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating, analyzing and implementing novel software, algorithms and systems as part of our research and advanced development programs on electrification and grid modernization;
  • Advancing the state-of-the-art for the electrical transmission & distribution grids to enable increased adoption of renewable and distributed energy resources;
  • Contributing to and leading prototyping efforts and pilot deployments;
  • Working with business and product teams, including hardware development teams across Analog Devices to integrate business requirements, analyze data and inform future hardware system design;
  • Staying abreast of state-of-the-art algorithms, research advances and commercial trends in various areas relevant to Analog Devices, particularly in the energy sector;
  • Navigating through ambiguity on early-stage programs, serving as a mentor to other colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree + 5 years of industrial or academic experience (or equivalent);
  • A strong background in developing algorithms and systems for transmission or distribution grids;
  • A track record of deployment of operational products onto the electrical grid;
  • Intellectual curiosity with a bias for action, evidenced by a history of increasing technical responsibility;
  • Effective communication skills with stakeholders across various levels.
