Description
Sherman+Reilly is seeking a mechanical engineer to join our effort in designing and customizing specialized equipment to meet specific customer needs. The ideal candidate is meticulous with a good foundation of contractual documentation, computer-aided design, and mechanical engineering fundamentals. - Review and submit customer-facing technical documentation and lead design reviews throughout the project.
- Implement designs in collaboration with department leads, tailored to specific customer requirements
- Work with other engineers to develop technical solutions for moderately complex design problems, as assigned by senior engineers
- Responsible for the timely completion of tasks and projects while meeting all requirements
- Provide support during the manufacturing process and field support as required
- Address and resolve project-related issues and conflicts as they arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Education and Skills
- Four-year bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited school
- Minimum of one year's experience applying fundamental engineering concepts from statics and mechanics of materials, such as resolving loads, creating free body diagrams, analyzing beams, and applying knowledge of stress and strain to create appropriate design factors of safety
- Proficient in creating 2D and 3D geometry using SolidWorks
- Familiar with supporting engineering change requests
- Familiar with industry standards organizations, particularly ASTM, ASME, AWS, and SAE
- Reasonably knowledgeable in designing for manufacturability and manufacturing processes to aid in design and support the operations team as needed
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel
- Experience with hydraulics design
- Experience with the design of weldments
- Experience designing heavy equipment for over-the-road use
- Experience with finite element analysis (SolidWorks preferred)
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, impact drivers, drills, and other common tools
- Climb on and off mobile equipment to access mechanical and electrical components
- Able to stand for extended periods of time while wearing appropriate safety gear and wearing steel toed boots
- During prototyping and while assisting the operations team you will be in a factory environment with load noises, dangerous tools and equipment, moving objects, dangerous fumes, and other personnel to be mindful of
- During testing you will likely be outdoors and environmentally exposed to natural dangers such as sunburn and inclement weather
- 50 - 80% of your work can be expected to be in an office environment in front of a computer desk - our desks are designed for sitting or standing
- On Site - 400 W. 33rd Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Monday - Friday; office hours are typically 0800 - 1700
- Many office employees choose to work from home on Fridays - this must be approved by your supervisor and is contingent on your performance and on-going projects
