Job Description Summary
As the CNC Machine Operator, you will perform a wide variety of manufacturing operations in largely self-directed operations. This can include setting up N/C and conventional machines, running multiple machines (mill/drill machines, lathes, presses, etc.), working to Work Station Instructions (WSIs). You will be responsible for visually checking various parts, maintaining proper records, and acting as a process change agent when needed.
Starting pay for this position is $28.92/hour and after 6 months of satisfactory performance, will increase to $31.68/hour. The expected schedule for this position will be 2PM - 10PM. As an off-shift position it also pays an additional $1/hour premium.
Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Set up and operating conventional or numerically controlled machine tools that require high skill to set up and operate.
Interpret engineering drawings and change notices, blueprints, sketches, and method sheets of complicated parts.
Machine all types of metals used within Wilmington machine shops.
Check work during various machining stages with complex measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, gages, scales, etc.
Perform precise indicating on parts where true indicator reading (TIR) is important to the machining of the part.
Maintain records, logbooks, charts, and initiating electronic or manual reports when required.
May be required on a temporary basis, to train operators to use certain equipment which the individual is qualified to run.
Meet standards as set forth by Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance.
Follow sequences, directions, and tooling call-out on method sheets.
Achieve all required tolerances and finishes that will produce quality parts in the allotted time.
Accurately serializing parts with the current marking method.
Set up and operate B4C (boron carbide) machine equipment. Maintain, alter, adjust, make minor repairs to B4C equipment. Manufacture B4C capsules for Control Rods, including mixing powder, determining density and testing capsules for pull strength.
Starting up, loading, monitoring, unloading, and shutting down annealing furnace, autoclave, and nitriding furnaces.
Annealing, autoclaving, and nitriding parts to process equipment instructions and monitor furnace to ensure a quality part and proper equipment maintenance.
Test cleaning solutions for specific gravity, alkalinity concentration (titration) and adjust bath as required to bring them into specification.
Operate all types of lifting devices and cranes associated with manufacturing.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Must have at least three (3) years of manufacturing experience in set-up and operations of (CNC) computer numerically controlled machining processes OR a 2-year degree from an accredited machinist training program that includes CNC Machining.
Minimum two (2) years of experience with basic measuring instruments and gauges (scales, micrometers, dial indicators, and verniers) and have an understanding of Total Indicator Readings (TIR)/Full Indicator Movement (FIM).
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in operating machining equipment (saws, shears, drill presses, punch presses, centerless grinders, small lathes, mills, CNC machines, etc.).
Desired Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year experience performing chemical testing and interpreting results.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in mechanical maintenance or mechanical manufacturing equipment setup.
Eligibility Requirement
Must have the physical ability to manually lift moderately heavy parts and occasionally (50-60 lbs) for short duration.**With or without reasonable accommodations.
Proficient use of basic shop math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and to use fractions and decimals to determine dimensions.
Proficient experience reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and drawings.
Knowledge and proficient use of basic computer systems, for furnace controls.
