Department Summary:
MITRE’s Cyber Operations & Effects Innovation Center is looking for a Lead Cyber Operations Engineer with a specialization in Digital Forensics. Our division focuses on evaluations, rapid prototypes, and tool development to provide cyber capabilities to real-world missions. Our experts support offensive and defensive operations, reverse engineering, and forensics, while drawing on other expertise as required for specific missions or adversaries.
Roles & Responsibilities:
MITRE is seeking strong technical candidates with a computer science, software engineering, or related background to join a research and development team focused on investigating new technologies and building prototypes.
The candidate for this position should have familiarity in at least one of these disciplines: traditional forensics, mobile forensics, reverse engineering, IoT devices, network packet capture and analysis, or Cloud forensics.
In addition, you will be responsible for:
- Digital, mobile, or cloud forensics
- Network packet capture and analysis
- Apply a full range of professional principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Support to outward-reaching sponsors
- Develop prototypes based on research
- Work independently to learn new technologies, languages, and platforms
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance
- Experience with programming in languages such as Python, Java, C++, or C
- Knowledgeable/Familiarity with operational digital forensic concepts and objectives
- Familiarity with operational Cyber concepts and objectives
- Familiarity with database systems (e.g. MySQL, Postgres, SQLite)
- The position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work schedule
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with operational digital forensic concepts and objectives
- Knowledge of the latest trends and non-governmental advances in Digital Forensics
- Strong familiarity with Linux
- Strong familiarity with network forensics, pcap analysis
- Familiarity with the latest tools and techniques employed by forensic examiners
