Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - Network to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in San Diego, California.
The Systems Engineer - Network provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Integrating network devices with monitoring and management software. Conducts testing of network and software tools. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network, hardware, and software such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Research, design, development, integration, and test of a variety of network equipment and systems
Responsible for integrating and testing software and/or hardware systems in complex IT systems.
Reporting Network status to Program Managers and IPT Management
Planning, coordination, and documentation skills are required.
Basic Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer - Network are:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university AND 4 years of Engineering or related experience OR a master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of Engineering or related experience OR a PhD AND 0 years of experience required
Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
Experience designing and maintaining network routing and switching systems
Experience deploying and maintaining network information and event management systems (e.g. ISE, Splunk, Solarwinds, Nagios)
Ability to travel up to 20%.
Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - Network are:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university AND 8 years of Engineering or related experience OR a master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 6 years of Engineering or related experience OR a PhD AND 4 years of Engineering or related experience.
Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access
Experience designing and maintaining network routing and switching systems.
Experience deploying and maintaining network information and event management systems (e.g. ISE, Splunk, Solarwinds, Nagios)
Ability to travel up to 20%.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university
Active, In-Scope, DOD Top Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.
Working knowledge on network security devices (e.g. firewall, IDS, IPS), network information & event management systems (e.g. ISE, Splunk, Solarwinds, Nagios) and software defined architectures (e.g. Cisco ACI)
Working knowledge on Virtualization (e.g. VMware)
Solid programming/scripting languages (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, Ansible)
Deep understanding of Kubernetes and Container networking
Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching design and implementation, VLAN design, tagging, trunking, 802.1q
Experience with routing protocols, WAN design and implementation, WAN interfaces, troubleshooting WAN connectivity
Knowledge and experience with VPN and remote connectivity maintenance and troubleshooting
Design, implement, troubleshoot LAN/WAN environments, ability to troubleshoot from end user device through the network/security stack
Ability to work with certificate authority, define certificate requirements for secure communications, design and implement certificates to increase communication security
Basic ability to work with container networking and container automation/orchestration systems.
Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
