Sr. Simulation Engineer - CFD and FEA

Summary:

The Sr. Simulation Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining analytic, modeling, and simulation support functions. The role involves supporting design teams to ensure the integrity of models, promoting the use of advanced simulation tools, mentoring engineers, and liaising with vendors to keep tools up to date.

Key duties include performing complex CFD and fluid flow analyses, solving mechanical flow problems, and contributing to new product ideas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, extensive experience in CFD and FEA, and proficiency with analytical tools such as MATLAB, Ansys, Abacus and COMSOL. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the analytic, modeling, and simulation support function.
  • Support design teams to ensure the integrity of analytic models and approaches.
  • Coordinate outside vendor communication to ensure analytical tools are up to date and infrastructure supports modeling requirements.
  • Promote the use of analytics and simulation tools in new product designs and ongoing product enhancements. (act as tutor to the engineering group)
  • Mentor engineers to increase their simulation experience and knowledge.
  • Work with channel partners to determine areas of weakness and coordinate training in advanced analytical techniques.
  • Review FEA analysis and models to ensure integrity and validity.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques in support of key projects and participate in design reviews as required.
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering teams and Ansys.
  • Develop and advance FSI and CFD capabilities to support accelerated design and evaluation.
  • Perform complex CFD and classical fluid flow analyses.
  • Analyze and solve specific mechanical flow problems and provide analytical engineering consultation.
  • Examine existing methodologies and innovate new technology opportunities.
  • Follow established policies and procedures related to document management and the security and accessibility of electronic data and confidential information.
  • Ensure professional communication via emails, understanding their role in the Federal Records Act.
  • Contribute to future new product ideas which will benefit the organization and differentiate it from competitors.
  • Develop elastomer models, including both 2D and 3D rubber modeling.
  • Conduct pressure vessel and fluid pressure distribution analyses, including pressure loss via simulation.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field; MS in Engineering is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in an analytical function, and meaningful experience specifically in CFD analysis.
  • Experience in CFD for gas/fluids required and multiphase flows with entrained solids preferred.
  • Fluid structure interaction (FSI) experience.
  • Fluent in Ansys and/or Abaqus
  • Ability to apply analytical techniques to real-world problems and provide solutions to support business objectives.
