Sr Engineering Manager – Shared Services
Proofpoint is looking for a Sr Manager of Engineering to join the Shared Services team. We are a tight-knit team, focused on building highly efficient services that have a huge impact across all Proofpoint products. We are looking for a Sr Manager of Engineering who possesses a passion for using cutting edge techniques to continuously improve the product and team, and developing/designing solutions to solve some of the difficult problems working with large and diverse datasets.
Your day-to-day
- As a senior leader of the Shared Services team, you will be working closely with highly talented cross functional teams.
- You will be responsible for overseeing various engineering projects, processes, planning, and hiring.
- Serve as an engineering leader who owns end-to-end technical solutions.
- Lead the design and architecture for new features and improvements to the existing solution in production.
- Lead architecture reviews, identify risks and advocate for simplicity of design. You do not hesitate to jump into code reviews when necessary.
- Mentor junior engineers in the team, recommend suitable technologies, advocate for engineering best practices.
- You will work with various stakeholders across the company to build a solid platform for Proofpoint.
- Ensure that customer and production issues are resolved quickly.
- Maintain a high standard for engineering practices within the team.
- This position is a hands-on position.
What you bring to the team
- BS degree or above in Computer Science.
- 15+ years of experience in large scale software development with 7+ years of managing engineering teams.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate teams.
- Ability to attract talent and hire great software engineers, build collaborative teams.
- Experience growing people and engineering teams and possess a can-do attitude with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Collaborate well with product, program and other cross functional teams.
- Knowledge of building large-scale services with high availability and reliability.
- Recent experience in Authentication and Authorization related protocols and standards such as OIDC, OAuth2, SAML.
- Knowledge of Active Directory/Azure/Okta is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases. MySQL and Cassandra preferred.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, alongside proficiency in orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Previous hands-on experience writing clean, elegant code in one or more languages including Java.
- Experience working with multiple databases.
- Thorough knowledge of multi-threading, concurrency.
- Deployed many products in the AWS platform leveraging suitable technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills with entrepreneurial attitude.
- Have built systems at scale in the past and is very comfortable dealing with hundreds of millions of requests.
- In-depth understanding of running production service with 24/7 support, monitoring.
- Excellent communication skills.

Compensation
Consistent with Proofpoint values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets as set out below. Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable pay and/or equity. We offer a competitive benefits package that includes flexible time off, a robust well-being program that provides for 4 global wellbeing days per year, and a 3-week work from anywhere option.

Base Pay Range: 189,750.00 - 278,300.00 USD
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:
Base Pay Range: 158,400.00 - 232,320.00 USD
All other cities and states excluding those listed above:
Base Pay Range: 144,825.00 - 212,410.00 USD
