To accomplish this mission, the Director of Alumni Relations must design, develop, and execute alumni-centric programs, events, volunteer opportunities, and communications working in close partnership with Advancement team members, other CSE offices, and the CSE Alumni Society Board. The position also acts as the college's primary liaison and collaborator with the University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA). Key Responsibilities: Program Development and Strategic Planning (30%) Develop annual and long-term strategic plans that connect alumni and build their affinity with the University of Minnesota, University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA), College of Science and Engineering (CSE), and its collegiate departments. Collaboratively design, develop, and execute a suite of events each year that appeal to a diverse range of ages, majors, and geographic locations. Examples include, but are not limited to receptions, reunions, luncheons, dinners, facility tours, lectures, and webinars. Plan and execute the CSE Mentor Program. Responsibilities include promotion, recruitment, training, and programming for approximately 300+ pairs via communications and activities. Conduct activities and programs to support fundraising goals and campaigns. Establish and execute work plans, timelines, reports, and other required documentation. Oversee or assist with event logistics including venues, catering, decor, layouts, programs, and audiovisual. Provide general event support, including registration, mailings, preparation of collateral, name badges and day of logistics. Monitor budgets, pay invoices, and manage vendor relationships for assigned events. Assign, supervise, and direct student worker projects. Monitor and evaluate outcomes compared to annual and long-term goals, including analysis of Alumni Engagement Metrics. Assist with budget, personnel, and program development matters. Volunteer and Relationship Management (15%) Build, maintain, and strengthen connections between external constituents and the University to enrich the lives of alumni and donors, support student success, and advance the University. Represent the University to external constituencies as an informed ambassador. Understand University and CSE priorities and tap alumni talent to support those goals. Oversee and lead the CSE Alumni Society Board and assist its leaders with recruitment, meeting preparation and facilitation, and fostering a culture of action. Work with alumni and donor volunteers through programs such as reunions, mentorship, geographic outreach, alumni recognition, travel/tours, speakers, and affinity and employer-based networks. Recruit, train, and manage internal and external volunteers, committees, and project teams for specific events and programs. Track alumni and donor engagement (event attendance, volunteer participation, 1:1 interaction, etc.) in the University's Donor Management System database and use engagement data to guide future programming. Partner with the CSE Career Center to enhance and deepen relationships with corporate alumni contacts (via a presence at the CSE Career Fair and corporate site visits, as requested); to track and analyze alumni participation in Career Center programs; and to create mutually beneficial events and volunteer opportunities. Alumni Association Collaboration and S pport (15%) Serve as primary liaison between the University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) and CSE to ensure mutual understanding and support of each unit's priorities and programs. Represent CSE at UMAA Alumni Relations Officer (ARO) monthly meetings and collaborate with UMAA staff to involve alumni in the life of the college and university. Represent CSE at UMAA events (i.e. Annual Celebration, U of M Night at the Twins, Graduation Send Off). Partner with the UMAA on mutually beneficial initiatives, such as Homecoming, the Maroon and Gold Online Network, and the Mentor Appreciation Dinner. Promote UMAA programs and initiatives of interest to CSE alumni. Internal Collaboration and Support (15%) Execute information requests and queries in the Donor Management System database on behalf of the college's departments and centers. Provide guidance to CSE departments and centers regarding alumni relations and event management best practices. Collaborate with CSE senior leaders, faculty, departments, centers, and other internal partners on a variety of projects, as needed. Communications (15%) Develop strategic communications to inspire alumni and donors to serve as ambassadors and advocates for the University and to inform them of engagement opportunities. Collaborate with CSE Communications staff to produce invitations, web pages, and other miscellaneous collateral. Use Salesforce Marketing Cloud to build, test, and send emails related to alumni events and volunteer opportunities. Suggest and review content for the alumni section of the college website, newsletter, and Inventing Tomorrow magazine. Respond to alumni-related email and phone inquiries. Alumni and Faculty Recognition (5%) Annually identify alumni with outstanding volunteer service or professional accomplishments and submit nominations for University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) awards and honors. Serve as a liaison between award recipients and various University offices regarding recognition via profiles, events, commemorative gifts, etc. Identify strong faculty and alumni speakers to nominate for college or national speaking opportunities Other duties (5%) Oversee standards for data privacy and integrity, as well as tracking systems for alumni engagement within the college. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the vision and philanthropic priorities of CSE and the University. Understand and utilize database, market segmentation, and data analytics. The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $77,000. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution. Minimum of 6 years of experience planning and executing events and programs. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Google applications (calendar, email, etc.).
