This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse, multi-disciplinary engineers, you will be part of the development of radar systems for Blue Origin’s lunar spacecraft. You will be part of a team responsible for development and optimization of these components from early concepts to product specifications, and to integration with the flight vehicle.

You will work closely with the guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) team to seamlessly integrate these components with the rest of the GN&C subsystem. This role is deeply interdisciplinary and requires coordination among a diverse group of internal stakeholders, adjacent integrated product teams, and suppliers. Your contributions will enable flight of state-of-the-art aerospace vehicles and missions.

What you will do:

  1. Design and simulation of end-to-end systems to meet required performance specification such as range and signal-to-noise ratio.
  2. Design and validate signal processing algorithm for applications of detection, tracking, RF calibration, parameter estimation.
  3. Support Matlab/Simulink Code generation for signal processing and filtering.
  4. Analysis of algorithmic computational complexity and hardware resource needs (FPGA fabric, memory/IO bandwidth, etc.).
  5. Signal-to-Noise/Clutter Ratio, Signal Sensitivity, RF nonlinearity calibration.
  6. Work with hardware engineers to drive device selection: FPGA, ADC/DAC, DDR3/4, NOR flash, etc.
  7. Support HW bring-up and work alongside EE engineers to support design verification.
  8. RTL logic implementation and FPGA prototyping.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 7+ years of DSP experiences.
  2. Experience in developing and implementing DSP algorithm on FPGA and/or embedded processor.
  3. Experience in simulating an end-to-end system to meet required performance specifications, such as link budget.
  4. Proficient with Matlab/Simulink, or equivalent modeling environment.
  5. Experience in designing, choosing, and optimizing DSP algorithms for radar or other relevant sensors.
  6. Proficient with IEEE 802.3, XAUI, PCIe, JESD204, I2C, SPI interfaces.
  7. Proficient in writing RTL using Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL (SystemVerilog desired).
  8. Strong understanding of FPGA design concepts, CDC, constraint definition, STA, and timing closure.
  9. Proficient with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus.
  10. Proficient with ModelSim/QuestaSim or equivalent simulators.
  11. Experience in writing testbenches utilizing techniques such as UVM/OVM, SV Assertion, and/or functional/code coverage analysis.
  12. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  13. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Requirements:

  1. 10 years of experience in industry.
  2. PhD or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mathematics, signal processing or a related field.
  3. Experience in FMCW or CW Radar/LiDAR signal processing.
  4. Proficient with scripting languages like Perl, Python, or Tcl is a plus.
  5. Experience with common on-chip bus protocols such as AMBA (AXI, AHB, APB), PCIe, JESD204B, I2C, (Q)SPI, etc.
  6. Experience with optoelectronic sensors.
  7. Experience with space applications and radiation environment.

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $176,871.00-$247,619.40; WA applicants is $186,789.00-$261,504.60.

Other site ranges may differ.
