SAFETY ENGINEER is required by our Client, within the Renewables industry, to be assigned on a Contract basis, located in Boston, MA.
POSITION SCOPE
This exciting position offers the opportunity to lead multi-million-dollar projects, collaborate with international teams, and contribute to the advancement of renewable energy. As a pivotal member of the Execution team, the safety engineer will create strategies, interact with project managers, oversee safety aspects during the design and construction phases, and lead onshore and offshore efforts—all while ensuring top-tier safety standards.
The Safety Engineer plays a crucial role within the Offshore Renewables Business, specifically as part of the New England Wind Execution Team. Under the guidance of the Health and Safety Lead, this role involves reviewing design focusing on the safety aspects and ensuring their alignment with company, USA, and international legislation and standards. The safety engineer negotiates with the engineering department, project packages, and contractors to ensure that the content of design risk assessments adheres to sound engineering safety methodologies, considering environmental factors, international and domestic regulations, and company expectations.
The selected candidate is also responsible for assisting on incident investigation, safety audits, inspections, and the creation of safety documents supporting the company's safety management system. While the position is primarily office-based, occasional site visits may be necessary during the construction phase. As such, the Safety Engineer will oversee safety aspects throughout design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. This position will be 80% office-based and 20% field-based.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership and Coordination: Lead the delivery of critical health and safety documents, ensuring adherence to local and international regulations. Collaborate with departments including Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction, Supply & Expediting, T&I, Commissioning, Contract Management, Legal, and Procurement.
- Project Management: Lead projects to successful completion within specified timelines, adhering to rigorous safety and quality standards. Develop and manage project documentation and processes that directly align with the Company Renewable's strategic objectives.
- Organizational Management: Design, implement, and oversee safety protocols and procedures within the specified scope. Foster efficient communication and collaboration among teams.
- Strategic Advice: Perform risk assessments, apply industry best practices, and provide strategic recommendations throughout the project lifecycle to mitigate the impact of unforeseen events.
- Risk Management: Assess potential risks, create strategies to mitigate them, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Standards and Practices: Implement onshore and offshore standards, procedures, tools, and best practices for large-scale projects, specifically offshore wind projects.
- Continuous Improvement: Capture and share lessons learned from offshore delivery projects, establishing feedback loops and best practices to enhance business value.
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: 5+ years of proven design safety in a delivery-oriented environment. Experience in offshore wind farms, marine works, or oil and gas delivery and operations. WTG wind turbine generator.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Process, Industrial or Safety Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- People Management: Ability to foster a collaborative work environment, encourage transparency, open communication, and respect among team members.
- Delivery and Contracting: Competence in design safety, contract negotiations, creation of documents, implementation of processes up to the hand-over to O&M. Experience collaborating with diverse teams and managing a wide range of project scopes.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Knowledge of local, international HSE legislation and best practices related to design safety and procedures. Familiarity with offshore safety standards such as the Global Wind Organization (GWO).
