Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior IT Software Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting Garmin’s integration with our CDN provider, collaborate closely with all the segments to support their infrastructure needs, provide technical consultation and mentoring. You will be interacting with a large variety of languages and technologies.
Essential Functions
All Teams:
- Leads complex multi-system application development projects and drives collaboration with other teams/departments.
- Develops and supports integrations between multiple systems and/or applications (CDN and Edge Roadmaps).
- Provides technical input to solution development plans/concept documents and collaborates and adds value in design reviews.
- Maintains, improves, and extends existing multi-system software and works collaboratively with Analysts/users to design software systems and develop/implement unit and system testing processes.
- Contributes to advanced technical research on new technologies and determines feasibility of team or functional goals/objectives.
- Understands business impacts of issues as they relate to IT owned solutions, provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems including evaluation of new technologies to improve existing functions, and consistently looks at opportunity in all change.
- Serves as a mentor to less experienced IT Software Engineers (Software Engineer 1 & 2).
- Demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin’s business model including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales & Marketing.
- Develops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
- Participates in project definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs.
Basic Qualifications
All Teams:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule).
- Demonstrated experience in successful implementation of technology solutions.
- Must demonstrate proficiency and possess the experience necessary to design, enhance and develop complex multi-system applications.
- Must demonstrate an ability to learn and understand secure coding practices.
- Must possess programming experience using Java, Java Server Pages (JSP), Java Servlets, JDBC, Java Enterprise Edition technologies.
- Experience with version control systems such as GIT, GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to drive projects to effective/timely completion.
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Solid understanding of software development principles, design patterns and best practices.
- Demonstratable ability to learn and understand secure coding practices.
- Systematic problem-solving approach and a sense of ownership and drive.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as part of a team with direct responsibilities and communicate/collaborate effectively with teammates/internal clients.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changes in project scope.
- Experience with any code versioning platforms - GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket.
- Experience supporting Micro-service and Cloud-native applications in a CI/CD automated, multi-tenant application environment with multiple partners and use cases.
- Experience as a full stack engineer using technologies like NodeJs, HTML, CSS, Vue, Java, SQL.
- Experience with any cloud platforms - Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, Cloudfront.
- Understanding of cyber security best practices.
- Understanding of infrastructure such as DNS, network, compute, load balancing.
- Experience with metrics and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack.
- Programming experience in a Linux/Windows environment with languages like Golang, Python, Java, JavaScript, Rust, Groovy, or C/C++.
- Experience working with enterprise level container-based systems - OpenShift, Docker, CRI-O, Kubernetes.
- Understanding of the OSI Layer principles.
