Field Engineer II - Commissioning and Process Specialist
The Field Engineer II position provides senior level guidance for field installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and training services for FLSmidth pyro, milling process and products including Mills, Kilns, Coolers, and other associated equipment. This position requires frequent short-term travel (up to 75%) - both planned and on short notice. Employee may be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, construction environments, and outside weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The successful candidate will function independently as the field process specialist for FLSmidth cement processing equipment such as Mills, Kilns, Coolers, and other associated equipment. The candidate's solid process and operational background and prior experience will be critical in the success of the equipment servicing.

  • Provide installation, checkout, and commissioning advisory services for FLSmidth equipment.
  • Developing optimized process solutions to customers on FLS specific equipment kilns (Rotax), coolers (SF, MMC, CB), burners (Duoflex, Jetflex) and other cement processing equipment.
  • Carry out several process audits at the existing cement plants examining current operations, process variables, quality parameters and provide recommendations for improvements on fuel consumption, emissions reduction and product quality.
  • Sales support to generate process solutions and participate in customer meetings to carry out technical discussions and provide clarifications.
  • Perform electrical, mechanical and process troubleshooting of the relevant equipment and provide correct diagnostic assessments.
  • Establish action plans and priorities to support successful project/service completion, provide mature in-depth analysis of problems, and develop realistic solutions.
  • Provide timely, concise, and complete written and oral reports.
  • Resolves/troubleshoots implementation problems and/or train customers on the features of the equipment.
  • Prepare and present training plans for internal and external use and develop field standards.
  • Represent FLSmidth in a professional manner. Interface with a wide selection of company and customer personnel. Build on the FLSmidth customer relationship.
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales of service programs and spare parts orders; provide technical support for equipment order proposals.
  • Identifies and corrects more complex problems associated with start-up
  • Researches, evaluates, and recommends new products or equipment upgrades that will meet customer needs
  • Promotes a culture of personal and team safety, including others who may be affected by the company's operational activities
RELATED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in process design, quality control, commissioning, process optimization of the cement process and products including Mills, Kilns, Coolers, and other associated equipment. Specific competencies identified for this position, include but are not limited to:
  • Experience in process design, quality control, commissioning, process optimization of the cement process;
  • Specialized knowledge in solution offering for cement process, emissions control and operational improvements.
  • Specialized knowledge in Raw Mills, Finish Mill, Preheaters, Flash dryers, Cement coolers, and kilns specific to processing of cement processing equipment;
  • Possess strong experience in Cement processes, sizing different industrial equipment and understanding of engineering principles specific to cement production
  • Possess Strong understanding of the cement process and effectively integrating these objects with other resources and action items to meet deliveries.
  • Strong experience in generating process flow sheets, mass flows, review control and instrumentation diagrams, conducting process audits, preparing mass and energy balances etc.
  • Possessed prior cement process experience.
  • Experience in cement processes, sizing different cement equipment and understanding of engineering principles to solve problems in cement industry.
  • Good computer systems and process aptitude to identify and resolve technical challenges
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, client's contractors, co-workers, and suppliers.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and implement effective time management on service sites
  • Flexibility with work schedule and change in assignment locations
  • Capability to develop and deliver technical training seminars to small or large groups.
  • Use of business software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid USA passport or foreign passport with USA work authorization is required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
B.S./M.S. in Chemical or Mechanical engineering. Relevant and significant industry experience may be substituted for formal education in special cases, at the discretion of the hiring manager .
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job requires: Frequent standing, frequent use of hands to work, handle, or feel, frequent talking and hearing. Occasional sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting or smelling. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work is performed in cement production and minerals processing facilities and mines, which require the ability to work in temperature extremes in addition to walking distances of up to ½ mile several times per day while traversing several levels of stairs and/or climbing in and out of machinery.
Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; temperature extremes; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
