This is a full time, remote Summer Internship that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.
Calix is looking for a Summer intern to join our Engineering Operations team. In this role, you will be part of a unique and award-winning internship program within the company. The program provides the opportunity to learn new skills through training and on the job learning. The duration of the program is expected to be 90 days.
In this role, you will work under the guidance of several engineers to enhance and expand the capabilities of the monitoring and alerting systems for the Engineering Operations organization. This system allows the team to observe failures to servers or devices. You will automate incident response to minimize incident resolution time. The results of your work will be used by several teams to manage incidents and investigate server performance.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of observability and monitoring tools (such as Grafana).
- Participate in the development of dashboards and alerts for real-time monitoring of our systems and applications.
- Integrate monitoring with an incident response tool.
- Collaborate with teams to identify and track key performance metrics.
- Participate in the documentation of monitoring processes and best practices.
- Participate in discussions within engineering group to organize and plan project priorities.
- Support test strategy and automation in both end-to-end solution and functional testing.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate college degree program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Preference will be given to those who have at least completed their Junior year.
- Strong understanding of networking.
- Familiar with Linux and Windows OS.
- Experience programming in Bash or Python. Object oriented programming is a plus.
- Familiarity with server performance monitoring a plus.
- Strong organization skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to work for the complete summer break (May - August or June - September).
Compensation will vary based on geographical location (see below) within the United States. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education (i.e. year in school).
