This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, systems engineers, and responsible engineers, you will lead a team of 8-12 systems engineers to deliver products for both MK1 and MK2 vehicles. You will report to the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) Manager within the Fluids and Propulsion (F&P) Integrated Product Team (IPT) and work closely with the Lead Systems Engineers and Architects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead a systems engineering team to deliver high-performance fluids and propulsion deliverables for Lunar vehicles, ensuring alignment with mission objectives while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.
- Define, specify, and flow down information to help Responsible Engineers to develop hardware. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, and Blue Origin groups.
- Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team of ~8-12 direct reports, focusing on their professional development through coaching, performance reviews, and routine one-on-one conversations.
- Develop and manage robust plans, product roadmaps, and key operating metrics for technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
- Provide technical leadership, monitor progress, and communicate updates to the SEIT Manager.
- Ensure the efficient and effective design, manufacture, procurement, testing, qualification, and delivery of the Fluids and Propulsion system for MK1 and MK2 vehicles.
- Work with SEIT Manager to manage the technical configuration, customer deliverables, and address scope changes and solving emergent issues that impact program success.
- Foster technical expertise and high standards within the team, reporting to the Fluids and Propulsion Integrated Product Team Lead SEIT Manager.
- 65% of time will be product ownership and technical deliverables while the other 35% will be functional management.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering or related technical subject area
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor
- 8+ years related technical experience
- In-depth understanding of fluids and mechanical engineering principles
- Track record of delivering integrated products, on schedule and within budget
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Familiarity with agile project management
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired:
- 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and coaching employees
- Demonstrated ability to provide cost and schedule leadership of a team
- Experience with space vehicle design
- Experience with aerospace components
- Experience with CAD (Creo), Windchill PLM and GD&T
- Experience performing reliability analysis to identify design weaknesses and inform design improvements, such as Failure Modes and Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- Demonstrated capability to manage test campaigns
- Experience with certification of human-rated space systems
- Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM
Compensation Range for:
CO applicants is $125,235.00-$175,329.00; WA applicants is $136,620.00-$191,268.00
