Job Requirements / Description

Scope: Reports to the Production/Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Sr. Mechanical Designer. Scope and quantity of projects reflect a low to moderate level of ability and experience in product development.

Summary: Design brake systems and related components, and/or tooling. Help coordinate engineering projects from inception to production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Create 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks.
  2. Help coordinate prototype development.
  3. Assist with product testing and validation.
  4. Participate in design reviews and project status meetings.
  5. Work with management and engineering support team to achieve project goals.
  6. Communicate technical information required by Project Coordination, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
  7. Provide technical direction in the creation of production drawings specific to assigned projects.
  8. Check manufacturing drawings to company standards.
  9. Alert management to potential design risks.
  10. Help ensure that products are cost effective, price competitive and maintain a high standard of quality and integrity.
  11. Maintain effective operational procedures to assure configuration control and accuracy.
  12. Monitor and report when necessary on critical producibility or high variability points within the developmental process flow.
  13. Maintain technical knowledge of Wilwood’s manufacturing capabilities.
  14. Seek professional growth and advancement through continued education.

Qualification Requirements:

Requirements:

  • High School diploma
  • 5 years’ experience in 3D modeling (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering related Associate’s degree
  • Some related college experience
  • Automotive related experience
  • Experience with hydraulics and braking systems

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to read ANSI Y14.5 drawings with an understanding of true positioning and geometric tolerancing, and a working knowledge of descriptive geometry. Ability to visualize three-dimensional views from a two-dimensional drawing and vice versa.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Knowledge of materials and processes in a manufacturing environment in order to determine good manufacturing practices. Ability to translate these concepts into tangible benefits.

Salary Range: $50K - $90K annual
