Position Overview:

Lead Bridge Designer for primarily vehicular bridge projects and possibly some rail or Department of Defense bridges. Serve in a Project Management | Lead Engineer role including the planning analysis and design of bridge projects ranging from conventional to innovative bridge types.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural load calculations and bridge plan / specifications development.
  • Oversee geometric layout and quantity development.
  • Check design calculations / construction cost estimates / plan development produced by other engineers.
  • Typical bridge projects include precast concrete girder (pre-stressed and/or post-tensioned) and steel plate or steel box girder for highway, waterway, and rail projects.
  • Strong technical skills in Engineering analysis and design combined with a proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects.
  • Perform as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on large projects and supervise Junior Engineers in the performance of engineering tasks.
  • Manage an existing Bridge Design team with increasing managerial responsibilities as time progresses (1-3 years into the future).
  • Report preparation and frequent client interaction.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSCE required; MSCE in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Active PE registration required.
  • ODOT project experience strongly preferred although not mandatory.
  • 8+ years of combined bridge design and PM experience required; 10+ years of combined design and PM experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior Supervisory experience (team, office, etc.) preferred.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of bridge design projects.
  • Experience with Bridge Inspection is preferred but not required.
  • Hydraulic Analysis experience as a desired skill including HEC-RAS.
  • Computer program proficiency: Microsoft Office, Structural analysis software (LARSA, SAP etc.), Structural design software (LEAP products BDS products PCA Col etc.).
  • Knowledge of MicroStation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with various teams - internal and external - is required.
