Client: A major global corporation and a leader in their industry operating over 350 manufacturing plants, earning annual revenue over $24B and employing over 15,000.
Overview:
The position will play a key role in supporting capital projects and initiatives to meet business, schedule, safety, and budget objectives. This position will focus on the operational side of these projects including the evaluation and implementation of business processes, equipment, systems and technology. A key aspect of this role will be consistent collaboration with both internal and external partners including but not limited to Engineering, Product Technology Center, Technical Applications Group, Quality Assurance (QA), Safety Health and Environment (SHE), Human Resources, product supply, digital manufacturing, factory operations, leadership, and vendors. Works with stakeholders from all business units to analyze, define and document all necessary changes as well as to translate new requirements into training-related materials and documentation for factory users. Serve as an effective coach for associates at all levels of the business.
Role:
- Support end to end project team coaching, scope development, risks, and key milestone identification.
- Align external partners company expectations and enforce requirements and standards.
- Lead identification of operational requirements and success criteria development.
- Provide input to and track operational budget and operational deliverables in project schedule.
- Develop rampup/startup plans in collaboration with project team.
- Facilitate key project workshops including scope alignment, VSED, kickstart, current operations assessment, and project defect analysis.
- Consult and track progress against recruiting, staffing, and training.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities in relation to business processes and systems as well as support change management strategies when changes are needed.
- Ensure operational safety is fully considered and escalate operational risks.
- Coordinate/monitor equipment, line readiness and safety (FAT, machine risk assessments, site acceptance testing, HECP/LOTO, SHE and QA/food safety planning).
- Lead commissioning/qualification planning, coordination, execution & reporting.
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate packaging process engineering functions covering all aspects of packaging equipment from primary packaging through secondary packaging and process unit operations as applied in production.
- Track progress of development and implementation of key standard routines, ME documentation, TPM and 5S.
- Serve as an expert in all aspects of food processing technology in terms of production systems, quality/sanitation, equipment design and application.
- Provide packaging engineering process design and review for capital projects including detailed phases of the engineering work, related documentation and field support.
- Coordinate work by outside consultants and suppliers and apply broad knowledge of standards, principles and practices in packaging specialties.
- Support divisional continuous improvement efforts and technical assistance to operating facilities, including investigation and analysis of problem areas and opportunities for packaging and process enhancements.
- Apply expert understanding of line balancing, equipment specification, vendor coordination, factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
- Assist in the development and modification of department technical guidelines, standards and specifications.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field is desired.
- 7 - 10+ years of packaging equipment engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in the food or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong experience in secondary packaging to ensure the appropriate selection of equipment technologies to fulfill the requirements of the packaging line.
- Must have hands on experience and can demonstrate to work in the field.
- Strong plus - proficient in project portfolio management tools (PPM e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project), layout software (AutoCAD, PackML), process flow (Visio).
- Strong project management experience.
- Plant startup operations experience is a plus.
