The offices in Jacksonville, FL and Ft. Lauderdale are looking for Experienced Mechanical Engineers, with a valid FL PE to join the Movable Bridge Business Unit

Movable Bridge Unit:

Focuses on the structural, mechanical, and electrical design of movable bridges of all types. Projects include new design of movable structures, structural, mechanical, and electrical inspection and rehabilitation of existing bridges. Our instrumentation group is housed in this unit and focuses on short term monitoring of bridges and other structures using a wide variety of gauges and instrumentation. Structural, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineers as well as CADD Technicians make up the staff of this unit.

We are looking for an Experienced Mechanical Engineer with at least 4 years' experience and a valid PE

  • we may consider applications for those who are eligible for their PE within 6 months

Candidates can choose between the Jacksonville, FL and Ft. Lauderdale, FL office. Additionally, candidate will have access to a hybrid working schedule, mentorship, a comprehensive employee.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design and detailing of bridge components and prepare contract plans, specifications, and estimates for movable bridges. This may include hydraulic systems.
  • Perform field inspection of mechanical systems of movable bridges . This may include hydraulic systems.
  • Perform CADD work to aid in the development of plans. Design in a 3D environment such as Inventor and 2D CADD experience in MicroStation preferred.
  • Develop effective presentation skills.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including assisting in pursuing new work and networking with staff at DOT's/other agencies as well as other engineering firms.
  • Be capable of performing a mixture of office and field work.
  • Ability to perform mechanical design and detailing of bridge components as one of the primary project engineers with limited guidance from Project Managers and Senior Mechanical Engineers
  • Ability to perform CADD work to aid in the development of mechanical plans, 3D design experience with Inventor preferred.
  • Ability to perform tasks on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Ability to show effective technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to perform field tasks at heights.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Florida.
  • Preferred but not required
    • familiarity designing and inspecting movable bridge machinery in accordance with AASHTO


  • Experience with bridge design preferred but not required. (training will be provided as needed)
