Job Summary
The Sr Network Engineer position at BDA will be the primary owner of all networking technologies, from layer 2 switching to perimeter load balancers. This position will provide vision, design, project management, hands-on interaction, and team leadership. We are a small, dedicated, talent-dense IT team, who is comfortable wading into a broad variety of networking platforms and vendors, as well as contributing to other department goals and objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS) and the system architecture engineering
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
- Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
- Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company's security team
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
JOB SKILLS AND TRAITS
- Expertise in designing network systems, including LAN, WAN, SDN, and WLAN configurations, and scalable network solutions.
- Proficiency in advanced routing and switching protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VLANs, and MPLS.
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS systems, and network security protocols to ensure the security of the network infrastructure.
- Ability to use network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark) to detect and resolve issues, ensuring optimal network performance.
- Knowledge of cloud networking platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), including hybrid cloud environments and cloud security best practices and software-defined networking to enable dynamic network management and support configuration, performance, monitoring practices.
- Familiarity with load balancing solutions and optimizing network traffic across multiple sites or data centers.
- Understanding of wireless networking standards and configurations (Wi-Fi 6, mesh networking, etc.).
- Deep understanding of network security, including encryption methods, vulnerability assessments, and risk management.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities to quickly identify and resolve network issues, whether related to performance, security, or hardware failures.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of proven hands-on network engineering experience
- Ability to communicate technology, financial and delivery trade-offs in context of BDA's infrastructure, applications and services, assuring future of investments supporting BDA strategic growth
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
- Deep understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
- Direct experience with SD-WAN, NAP, WAN Compression and SIEM technologies and strategies
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills with a can-do, positive attitude and a willingness to respond quickly in a helpful manner.
- Must be calm under pressure and when working towards a deadline
- Highly analytical and detail oriented, with strong problem-solving skills
- Good oral and written communication skill. Must be able to document system infrastructure, changes to the architecture, and author turn-over documentation to production support personnel. Additionally, must be able to author system policies.
- Software defined network architecture knowledge
We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position is $145,000 to $165,000. If you are hired at BDA, your compensation will be determined based on factors that may include geographic location, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any offer. In the spirit of pay transparency, the range listed is the full base salary range for the role and hiring at the top of the range would not be typical, in order to allow for future salary growth. The range listed is just one component of BDA's total compensation and rewards programs, which includes: robust PTO; vacation, a paid volunteer day, holidays and summer Fridays, Benefits; medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, 401k; tuition reimbursement, mental health and financial wellness programs and professional development opportunities including tuition reimbursement. Certain revenue-generating positions may be eligible for incentive compensation.
