Data Engineer
Sasaki is one of the leading multi-disciplinary design firms in the world, with 320 employees based primarily in the Boston region and over 700 awards for excellence in our architecture, site, and planning and urban design practices. Our Information Services team is looking for a Data Engineer to formulate a workable methodology for transforming large amounts of raw business-generated data into useful and actionable information for company decision-makers. The ideal candidate will have superior analytical, statistical, mathematical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization. Although the preferred location is Boston, MA, we are open to candidates from the Denver & New York offices as well.
Key Roles and Activities:
- Collaborate with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and fostering data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Creating detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases.
- Estimating, prioritizing, planning and coordinating quality testing activities.
- Defining and documenting the specifications for integrations, databases and data streams by translating business requirements.
- Focused on the day-to-day tasks of cleaning, wrangling, and preparing data for other data consumers, such as data scientists.
- Assemble large, complex datasets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
- Identify, design and implement internal process improvements by automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability.
- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and build new API integrations to support continuing data volume and complexity increases.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of related industry experience as a data engineer, creating and maintaining data pipeline architectures.
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
- Advanced working knowledge of SQL and experience working with relational databases, query authoring and a variety of databases.
- Candidates for the data engineer role must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, mathematics or a similar area of study. A master’s degree is preferred, and a data engineering certification is a plus.
