Position Summary
The Systems Engineer aids in the design, management, and support of the software, hardware, and cloud (AWS) services that comprise the CCIT technology infrastructure. Working closely with the Director, Systems and Infrastructure, the incumbent is responsible for administration of hardware, software, and cloud services including, but not limited to, physical hosts, virtual machines and storage appliances. In conjunction with the Director, Systems and Infrastructure, the Systems Engineer contributes to the design, implementation, and support of this infrastructure to ensure highly available and scalable services.
Responsibilities
- Assists with day-to-day maintenance and general health of College IT infrastructure, including log reviews and responding to incidents in real-time.
- Contributes to the administration and support of College IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and cloud services.
- Contributes to the administration and support of user accounts, and end-user facing server software.
- Contributes to regular backups for all systems and applications on regular intervals, and regularly verifies backups for integrity, consistency, and restorability.
- Contributes to securing all physical and virtual equipment, regularly verifying systems against standard operating procedures.
- Performs security reviews, making adjustments as necessary to protect College infrastructure from vulnerabilities and exploits.
- Identifies improvements to existing infrastructure.
- With guidance from the Director, Systems and Infrastructure, performs research, design, planning, implementation, testing and support of new systems and improvements to existing infrastructure.
- Assists with designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure.
- Assists with migration of on-premises applications to cloud infrastructure.
- Writes and maintains documentation for all aspects of the CCIT infrastructure.
- Monitors multiple communications channels, including email, chat, monitoring systems, and issue trackers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or its equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years of related experience is required.
- Ability to work on converging projects with different timeframes and deliverables.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under short and changing deadlines, while ensuring timely and accurate execution.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Outstanding attention to detail, as well as the ability to keep College goals in mind when planning large or small scale projects.
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
- Experience with organizing, planning, and documenting work via a ticketing system, such as Jira, Bugzilla, ServiceNow, etc.
- Ability to monitor and use multiple communication channels simultaneously.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and tact in a professional setting.
- Strong experience with:
- Microsoft Server 2012, 2016, 2019
- Active Directory and Group Policy management
- Scripting languages such as PowerShell, VBScript, and .NET
- VMware vSphere, including ESXi and vCenter
- Networking including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP

Proficiency with:
- Cloud service providers, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- UNIX/Linux (RHEL) systems administration.
- Backup systems for physical and virtual hardware, e.g CommVault, Veeam.
- Monitoring tools, e.g. Nagios, Zabbix.
- Microsoft SQL Server.
- NAS/SAN hardware and software, e.g. NetApp, Clustered Data OnTap (cDOT).
