Job Title: Distribution Design Engineer 1Job DescriptionUtility Contractor is seeking a Distribution Designer 1 to support underground utility projects for a local utility provider in Seattle. Phase 1 of the project primarily involves fieldwork, with 95% of the time dedicated to conducting inspections to assess and evaluate existing utility vaults and manholes for their sustainability in underground distribution systems. Fieldwork primarily involves capturing photos of underground distribution systems. After gathering the data, you will develop construction work packages in AutoCAD.Field Work: Conduct on-site inspections to assess and evaluate existing utility vaults and manholes to ensure their suitability for underground distribution systems. Capture photos from UG distribution systems.Design and Planning: Develop detailed engineering designs and layouts for underground distribution systems, including trenching, duct banks, conduit systems, and vault placement.Coordination: Work with cross-functional teams including construction, permitting, and regulatory agencies to ensure seamless execution of projects.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that designs and installations meet local, state, and federal regulations, as well as safety and environmental guidelines.Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for project updates, reporting to senior engineers, project managers, and clients.Material Selection: Specify appropriate materials for underground systems (e.g., cables, conduits, transformers), vaults, handholes, etc.Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including schematics and field reports.Hard SkillsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field0 - 2 years of experience in underground electrical distribution design and fieldworkProficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, or similar design softwareKnowledge of local and national electrical codes, safety regulations, and utility standardsSoft SkillsExcellent communication skillsProject management skillsWork EnvironmentPrimarily field-based work with some office time for design and planning. Ability to work in various weather conditions. 95% travel to job sites in Seattle area.
