Roadway Engineer (Lower Level or Mid-Level)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and will be responsible for roadway geometric design, drainage calculations, quantity calculations, and the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal and MDOT roadway/highway projects. This position is under the supervision and direction of the Associate in charge of Transportation work for the West Michigan Region, based in the Grand Rapids office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform roadway geometric design and drainage calculations.
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal and MDOT roadway/highway projects.
- Work on maintenance of traffic design and staging plans (a plus).
- Coordinate utility relocation and perform stormwater drainage design.
- Assist in the preparation of construction plans, estimates, bid documents, and project specifications in compliance with MDOT and local municipality standards.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and assist in mentoring entry-level engineers and interns.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- License: Michigan Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain within 6 to 12 months).
- Experience:
- 3-7 years of experience in roadway/highway design.
- Experience in roadway geometric design and drainage design.
- Familiarity with maintenance of traffic design and staging plans is a plus.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with MicroStation/InRoads and AutoTurn is a plus.
- Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
