This opportunity resides with Fleet Sustainment , a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. We are seeking a Marine Electrician to support our Elevator Support Unit (ESU). This is a full-time position, located in San Diego, CA.

What You Will Do

  • Support Elevator Support Unit (ESU) by performing a variety of skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems and associated equipment, including aircraft elevators, weapons elevators and vertical stores conveyors.
  • Perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems.
  • Work closely with higher level employees in specialized assignments.
  • Train/assist other employees/navy personnel on shipboard systems and day-to-day operations.
  • Engage in daily activities of physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment.
  • Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
  • Perform duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignments.

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Experience performing troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems.
  • Proficient in reading electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience conducting on-site installation of equipment while following established safety, quality control & testing procedures.
  • Able to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
  • Able to obtain and maintain base access credentials.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Able to provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • Experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of marine hydraulic electrical systems.
  • Prior Shipboard experience.
  • Candidates with a current or active DoD secret clearance or higher.
  • Related technical training, degrees and/or certifications.
  • Experience related to maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevator and/or ordnance handling equipment and vertical package conveyors.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes, with weight requirements determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Must be able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods and may require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
