About the Department:
The department of Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking tenure-track faculty members in autonomous systems and robotics areas at the rank of assistant professor.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Teach courses in robotic systems (kinematics, dynamics, and controls), medical devices and bioinstrumentation, and autonomous intelligent vehicles.
- Have research interests in robotics and cyber-physical systems, including soft robotics, medical robotics, bioinspired robotics, and autonomous vehicle systems.
- Conduct weekly office hours, attend faculty meetings, participate in student learning assessments, and serve the department, college, and university.
- Be flexible to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online.
- Help achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service.
- Develop and supervise hands-on projects for the senior design culminating experience.
- Pursue external funding and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution by the date of appointment (ABDs may apply, but the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment).
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body.
- Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.
- College or University-level teaching experience in a related field.
- Evidence of research publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or conference proceedings within the past 5 years.
- A record of receiving grant funding or potential for receiving external funding.
