About the Department:

The department of Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking tenure-track faculty members in autonomous systems and robotics areas at the rank of assistant professor.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

1. Teach courses in robotic systems (kinematics, dynamics, and controls), medical devices and bioinstrumentation, and autonomous intelligent vehicles.
2. Have research interests in robotics and cyber-physical systems, including soft robotics, medical robotics, bioinspired robotics, and autonomous vehicle systems.
3. Conduct weekly office hours, attend faculty meetings, participate in student learning assessments, and serve the department, college, and university.
4. Be flexible to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online.
5. Help achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service.
6. Develop and supervise hands-on projects for the senior design culminating experience.
7. Pursue external funding and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution by the date of appointment (ABDs may apply, but the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment).
• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body.
• Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.
• College or University-level teaching experience in a related field.
• Evidence of research publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or conference proceedings within the past 5 years.
• A record of receiving grant funding or potential for receiving external funding.
