Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer is detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills, and requires exceptional technical knowledge of data management and visualization principles to support enterprise data initiatives. This position provides business intelligence services, including implementing enterprise reporting, championing data literacy initiatives, monitoring and maintaining data catalogs, analyzing comprehensive data, interpreting statical trends and patterns, and consulting to support department business intelligence needs and objectives. The business intelligence engineer position is involved in on-call technical support 24/7/365 with mandatory personal cell phone required, per Administrative Directive 9.05.
Essential Functions:
Technical Lead/Project Management
  • Actively participates as project lead in software and hardware upgrades and keeps manager informed of progress, obstacles.
  • Advises management and provides recommendations on technical and project issues.
Business Intelligence Support, Development
  • Proficient data cleansing, data integrity, data analysis, and data management concepts.
  • Develop and maintain data visualization and reporting efforts leveraging tools like MS Power BI or Tableau.
  • Maintain data governance strategies to promote data literacy, data quality and data catalogs throughout the organization with tools like: Azure Purview.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining data structures and models for relational and non-relational data using platforms and tools: Python, MS SQL, SSIS, T-SQL, DAX, M-Code, PowerShell, and Azure Data Platform in a Microsoft and Linux environment.
  • Conduct statistical data analysis for descriptive, diagnostic, prescriptive and predictive data modeling and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for customers, partners, and other IT professional staff using tools like: Azure DevOps and Azure Purview.
  • Identify opportunities for data acquisition, interpreting trends and patterns to enhance data quality and reliability.
  • Provides 24/7 application support during on-call time.
  • Participate in technical designs to ensure compliance with business requirements and technical specifications.
Partnerships/Customer Service/Consulting
  • Provide training to customers and other IT professional staff who use programs/systems.
  • Acquire and maintain working knowledge of customers' operation and business needs by participating in meetings, reviewing relevant documentation, and openly communicating with customers as necessary.
Professional Development
  • Attend training classes, conferences, seminars, and workshops to increase knowledge in system analysis and design, computer programming, utilities, and other applicable skills such as written and oral communication, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Participate in user groups, formal classes, and self-instruction to keep abreast of the latest developments and technical advances in the industry as they relate to assigned projects and responsibilities.
Education, experience, certification, license, etc. as required for the job:
A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or strong equivalent work experience. Minimum three (3) years directly related to job functions.
Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and/or machines, equipment, special tools as required for the job:
Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. Strong production support for maintaining data environments. Working knowledge for advance statistics. Demonstrates strong technical knowledge in SSAS, SSIS, T-SQL, DAX, M-Code, Python. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Strong customer service skills. Ability to foresee and evaluate possible problems and to plan alternative solutions. Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills; Must be a self-starter, proactive and capable of taking direction and moving forward with minimal supervision. Ability to assimilate user requirements and issues as well as the business rules governing the request.
Starting Pay Range : $30.00 - $36.00, depending on experience
