Description:
Under direct supervision, the temporary Website Assistant in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will coordinate critical and timely updates to website content and content-related services for several CTL sites. The Website Assistant will partner with CTL staff to ensure the layout, positioning, navigation, and look and feel of content is consistent across the organization and meets CTL website style guidelines.
Core duties:
Using established standards, coordinate the editorial review and quality assurance process. Identify and communicate issues and feedback to content creators based on understanding of the editorial process.
Ensure new and revised pages are user friendly, link properly and seamlessly with existing pages, and navigate easily by using a manual process or web-based tool. Ensure consistency across branding, university/department standards, and accessibility compliance issues utilizing university standards.
Gather information from CTL and related clients/groups to maintain existing content and/or to develop new content.
Crop and resize images as needed for use in web pages; add alt text and other accessibility features as needed; manage other digital media.
Optimize web content for end user performance. Work may include reformatting text, assuring hyperlink integrity, transferring and translating files, and posting of new material to pages, involving use of the Drupal content management system (CMS) as well as HTML. May maintain web site content and information flow.
Find, diagnose, and fix content problems, including broken links, typographical errors, and formatting inconsistencies.
Collaborate with and attend Teaching Commons Web Team meetings and other website-related meetings as needed.
Estimated Hours: 10-19 per week
Location: Remote work possible but must be in California
Requirements:
Minimum education and experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Clear understanding of web standards and usability methods.
Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
Familiarity with web publishing tools.
Working knowledge of HTML and related web site development technologies and software.
Knowledge of user experience and information architecture.
General knowledge of office applications.
Preferred:
Familiarity with educational and pedagogical (learning and teaching-related) content knowledge.
