JOB DESCRIPTION: HALO Safety and Reliability Engineer
QTS has a rewarding position supporting the NASA Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract (SMAEC II) at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Come join our team and help us continue the mission of space exploration. The Gateway Program provides NASA a foothold around the moon providing access to the lunar surface and missions to Mars, and one of Gateway’s primary components is the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) element. The HALO Safety and Reliability Engineer responsibilities include performing system safety and reliability evaluations of the proposed HALO Gateway element prior to on-orbit operations.
Job Duties:
 

• Support Design Reviews of HALO systems hardware, provide engineering evaluations against design and safety requirements.
• Assure the technical adequacy of analyses developed for the HALO project.
• This position will require extensive oral and written interaction with high level customer personnel. Presentations to management and NASA customers are an expected aspect of this position.
• Participate in the HALO/Gateway forums to provide S&MA engineering support in vehicle development. Provide technical engineering support to NASA HALO/Gateway Program Representatives to decision-making boards and panels.
• Review and assess safety analysis hazard reports, requirement non-compliances, and support programmatic safety reviews.
• Evaluate safety and mission assurance impacts of proposed engineering changes to HALO/Gateway hardware and processes.
• Assess Failure Modes and Effects Analyses and Critical Items for S&MA engineering for accuracy and completeness.
• Identify, assess, and communicate areas for risk mitigation/acceptance by the HALO/Gateway team.

   
REQUIREMENTS: HALO Safety and Reliability Engineer
   
Education:  BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or STEM degree.
    
Year(s) of Experience: Fifteen plus years of experience in operations and/or engineering.
Required Skills and Traits:
    

• Excellent oral and above average written communications skills; Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management;
• Experience using Microsoft Office to prepare detailed reports, presentations, and spreadsheets to convey technical information to customers and management
• Experience providing detailed technical briefings and progress reports to team members, customers and management
• Experience in requirements development, verification or assurance
• Must be able to travel (~10%)

    
Other Desired Skills
      

• Familiarity with the NASA organization and with the International Space Station (ISS) subsystems and component
• Knowledge of fault tree and risk management analysis
• An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process to include the generation of hazards analysis
