This individual will also be a mentor to junior level engineers on new product development projects and help improve the technical skills of others in the reliability department.The Principal Reliability Engineer will work with internal and external partners to support the business operational needs of the company through engineering activities that drive prevention, detection of defects at the earliest phases of product design, and throughout the product lifecycle.The Principal engineer will promote 'Design for Reliability' early in the development cycle, using physics of failure, reliability predictions, and simulation by creating and executing a comprehensive testing plan at the system, subsystem, and critical component qualification levels.A successful candidate will be curious and accountable, and will bring strong experience in design, test set up, validation and data acquisition. Critical component testing will also be integral to the group's efforts to identify and mitigate risks. The Candidate enjoys excellent visibility and opportunities to grow.Duties and ResponsibilitiesFor both the candidate and the group to be successful, the candidate will:Collaborate with Design Engineering and Marketing to define the products' specifications leading in all aspect of reliability, quality and testing.Participate in design reviews to align prototype and system readiness for testing and verification activities.Develop and implement reliability analysis, design, validation, and assessment methods to support successful new product introductions based upon risk analysis and warranty predictions.Be responsible for performing the product qualification-testing plans, including functional testing, reliability and durability testing.Work with test engineers to implement new test equipment and method based on product reliability specification.Provide technical support to improve existing product reliability.Write and review detailed technical analysis reports.Perform root cause analysis through thoughtful test design for failures observed in reliability testing and/or field use.Provides technical training to junior engineers and technicians.Lead teams for new product designs and engineering changes with respect to product reliability, user requirements and warranty information.Participate in user need research to identify "Critical To Quality" (CtQ) requirements on mechanical and electrical design features.Support of early development activities focused on identifying project feasibility and key user needs.Lead risk assessments (Design and Manufacturing) for new product development projects during the product development cycle.Track multiple projects simultaneously to ensure adherence to schedule and the Milwaukee Tool product development process.Outline reliability test strategies, definitions, and plans as necessary to test devices to product specs.Develop test plans and prove out test methods based on new or established product designs to ensure product meets customer requirements.Create optimized test plans to support design engineers in their understanding of quality concerns and improvements to design.Lead test laboratories implementing test plans/procedures ensuring full test completion and best practices are utilized.Analyze, draw conclusions, report and present product information utilizing statistical techniques such as Weibull analysis, reliability distributions and matrices.Draw concise, logical, written conclusions from experiments based on data analysis.Ensure timely failure reporting and lead root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventative actions.Job RequirementsBachelor’s or master’s degree in reliability, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related discipline. Consideration is also given to those with 8+ years of equivalent experience in design or test of EE or ME hardware or similar practical reliability experience.8+ years of experience working in a role related to reliability, quality, and testing.Strong analytical problem-solving skills and sound statistical application in areas such as Design Of Experiments, sampling techniques, regression, reliability, Failure Mode Engineering Analysis, hypothesis testing, etc.Previous relevant experience with life data analysis, and other related statistical tools and software (i.e. Minitab, Reliasoft Weibull++)Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems, data analysis, and presentation.Demonstrate skills in leading and mentoring other employees in statistical techniquesUp-to-date knowledge of current reliability engineering evaluation practicesExperience in troubleshooting, fault detection, failure analysis, and in automating test/measurement equipmentExperience in accelerated life testing is highly desiredStrong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels with creative problem-solving capabilitiesDemonstrates excellent organizational skills, can synthesize problems, and easily report them to managementAbility to travel 10% of the time is required (travel includes Domestic and International)Preferred: ASQ Reliability Engineering Certification (ASQ-CRE) or the ability and desire to achieve certificationMilwaukee Tool is an equal opportunity employer.
