(NYSE: MEI) is seeking an Optical Engineer 2 to assist with strategic growth initiatives and the establishment of optical engineering within Methode.is a leading global developer of User-Interfaces, LED Lighting, Sensors, and Chassis and Powertrain signal/power distribution solutions. Our team of knowledgeable sales, design engineers, and operations personnel across the globe offer expert advice and develop innovative and highly integrated solutions tailored to address our customers' challenges and meet your objectives.Responsibilities:Create innovative exterior and interior lighting systems for Automotive, Commercial Vehicles, Motorcycles, Recreational Vehicles, and Light Rail using incandescent, HID, and LED light sourcesDevelop concepts that can be tooled, manufactured while meeting legal and customer requirements within defined tolerancesPerform feasibility, and benchmark studies to support quotes, and future marketingAnalyze off-tool parts, perform root cause analysis, and assist in certification of lampsInterface pro-actively with Design Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Tooling Engineers, and customers to develop optical conceptsReview legal market requirements for vehicle lighting to meet industry standardsAssist in design of manufacturing tools, fixtures and processes required to build and service the optical sub-systemsEvaluate parts, optical testing related equipment and vendors related to optical development of lampsReview components that interact with the optical subsystems of company productsOptimize designs to improve beam characteristics and overall optical efficiencyEvaluate and characterize secondary optical solutions and customer lighting fixtures using optical instrumentation such as a goniometer, spectrometer, and illuminance metersGenerate clear and detailed documentation for optical designs and test resultsWork with Manufacturing to diagnose concerns with the company's productsOther duties as assignedQualifications:Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Applied Physics3+ years Illumination Optical Design (non-imaging) experience; LED experience highly preferredMust have LucidShape or similar optical design software experienceCATIA V5, or other 3D CAD experienceExperience with test equipment like Goniometer and integrating sphereBasic programming experience a plusExcellent communication skills, both oral and writtenMicrosoft Office proficientTeam playerSelf-motivated with the ability to thrive in a start-up environmentBalanced judgment to operate within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actionAbility to travel up to 10% of the time, both domestically and internationallyAbility to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 poundsMethode Electronics is an equal opportunity employer.
