Description
We are seeking an experienced engineer to be at the forefront of solving privacy and compliance problems for iCloud data. In this role you will:
- Work as a privacy champion across iCloud data, helping the team navigate through continuously evolving privacy policies, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with multi-functional teams across organizational boundaries on the overall privacy narrative for iCloud data, helping to craft iCloud data’s privacy and compliance strategy for upcoming initiatives.
- Guide the design of new privacy-preserving data collection methodologies to enable the evaluation of iCloud products and services.
- Promote a culture of data minimization and help strategize and implement technical data engineering and data science solutions that meet iCloud data and business needs.
- Provide mentorship to data developers on the right privacy and compliance approaches, frameworks, and solutions to leverage for their use cases.
- Partner with privacy champions across Services Engineering to ensure the application of consistent principles and unified solutions to solve iCloud-specific privacy and compliance problems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Passion for solving customer and data privacy challenges to unlock key data and business outcomes.
- Deep understanding of privacy principles, data protection regulations, and technical expertise to implement privacy-enhancing solutions.
- Collaborate internally across the team and with multi-functional teams to embed privacy principles into the design and architecture of iCloud products and services, and guide the development of data collection systems.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments for new and existing products and features. Ability to analyze system architectures to assess privacy exposures and suggest mitigations.
- Ability to assist the broader iCloud data team in the creation and enforcement of privacy and compliance policies and guidelines.
- Strong problem solver with meticulous attention to detail, capable of taking on loosely defined problems.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (Java, Scala, or Python).
- 5+ years of experience assessing data privacy and compliance risks, recommending mitigating controls, and implementing solutions.
- Strong background in distributed systems and distributed data processing, with strong SQL skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, engaging broadly with multi-functional teams of diverse skills and approaches to influence iCloud data’s overall privacy and compliance strategy.
- MS or BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field OR equivalent practical experience in Software or Data Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience in Privacy-Enhancing Technologies for large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with differential privacy is a plus.

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $199,800 and $364,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
